Australian Motorcycle museum
« on: March 23, 2008, 08:05:36 pm »
I went for a ride today and stopped in on the new museum in Haigslea. Its on the way to Toowoomba.
http://www.australianmotorcyclemuseum.com.au/
Worth a look, they have not long opened the doors. There are too many bikes for the floor space so they rotate the bikes. There are more being restored all the time and he is starting to buy up mxers and trailies as well. The plans have started to extend the shed half as big again. Ivan Magers'(i dont know how to spell his last name properly) has loaned his 1962 world championship winning bike. I came in late(345) and they closed at 4pm. I asked if i could have a quick look and Allan (owner) said take your time! Great guy, and his wife too. His wife started the Chev powered bike up for me (only one in there), man what a beast. The enginering is second to none, typically yank of course. It had a stall converter then a right angled drive that the drive chain ran off. The right angled drive also acted as the pivot bolt for the swingarm. Apparently its hard to ride as the torque of the motor throws your balance off. I thought of Hoony and YSS when i saw the sidecar.Nuff said, check out the pics.

Brad have you see the museum at Nabiac near Tarree ? if not a quick stop on you way to tassie will be a treat to break the drive.

OH you QVMX blokes got any rides on around the time i am up there? i would like to check it out with the family if its not too far to drive

Hoony,

would the BMCC "double the dirt"  be run at Tivoli?

i know where that is as i lived at Mt Crosby as a kid. The old man was a speedway fan and used to also take me to the Ipswich Speedway in late 60's (i think it was Ipswich)

not Tivoli,
if you can use a brisbane refedex, check out Nudgee on brisbane north side. the flat track and classic moto-x are both on the same complex and it backs onto the gateway motorway. if thats a good weekend for you, when it gets closer, just give one of brisbane blokes a bell and we'll make sure your all sorted.
look for Raubers rd off nudgee road and the track is at the end of that.

Bring your gear and you will have a bike to ride. They only allow up to evo. Might be your chance to ride a 490 Maygo.
