What's going on with this ?

Obviously a mod, but what is the shock from and why would you do it  :-\

Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

The only triple jumps he would have been doing are the hop, skip & jump.

I'd say it's not the standard shock for the bike and that bit on the end is to make up the difference. I had the same thing on the 80 J that I bought. Beware other such modification..... ::)

thanks Ross,

Thankfully whoever did it had the good sense to make it removable  8)

I will give it a chance as it is and see how it goes.  250C shocks don't exactly grow on trees ::)

You need to show the other end of the shock but Im calling it a DT shock , similar to later yz 's but no dampening adjuster on the shaft

Yeh the YZB /C and mx b's shock had a long shaft though the end and two nuts and 3or2 rubber bushes the shock in the photo looks like a 77 plus dt shock ( no adjustment )

It does have some sort of weird adjustment as per below  :-\

regardless of all that it certainly isn't a C shock as there is no reservoir anywhere to be seen

That one will make an almighty bang if it bottoms out. The standard YZC shock uses the rubber mounting cushions at the front end to absorb the impact when the shock bottoms (spring coils all touch when it bottoms). That set up in the photo has no cushion on the mounting or on the shock shaft so something may well bend if it ever bottoms hard.

I see Walter has one for sale.  I will investigate that ;).

Would be good to know what the other one is as it works very well and is in very good nick.  No leaks or rust on the shaft.

as for why would you do it.

becuase the rear shocks would have been really hard to come by before the internet was around, and it would have been easier/cheaper to make that one fit rather than get the correct item. or fix the correct item.

and as you would likely know -
here is the standard setup (tho the 125 version)

FWIW this is 125X shock on top and 125C model on bottom

considering the bastardry seen on other resto's/paddock bashers, that mod seems rather well engineering by comparison. I'm not saying you should chrome plate it (as you've been known to do) just saying it's not complete shite relatively speaking

As motomaniac said, 99% sure that's a DT125/175 monoshock shock. That IS a dampening adjustment, but I've never felt any difference, even when they weren't seized solid.

DT250/400 monoshocks have a wider top/front mount, I think.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
