My brother and I have been building and tweaking our vinduro bikes (and spending heaps of hard-earned) for some years now, lying in wait for the Qld Vinduro scene to finally take off. The event at Green Park in October 2008 was such a great ride and I hope that sort of event can happen in 2012. Good to see the incentive from QVMX to add a Vinduro practice day this year although sadly didnt eventuate.
For a club wanting to 'differentiate' its a pity it couldnt be more focused on vinduro/trail rides and others on mx. But I guess the level of organisation (eg number of volunteers, sweep riders etc, not to mention land size and track setup) is so much more for a vinduro. The opening comment about getting off fat arses really means that quite a few of us have to chip in to get the thing to work, rather than turn up at the track ready to ride.
The post about vinduro being added to the Qld Enduro scene is very interesting - how does that work and how would we/I get involved in that ?
Regarding the level of interest: there would be some statistics one could obtain from the Sunsine Coast MCC for the October 2008 event at Green Park. My reckoning is that there were 100-120 riders. And theres the rider list from the 2010 Masters Games - but that number is probably low because there was the Enduro on the same day and that might have reduced the potential numbers for the vinduro. Col Metcher would be the man to query.
