Brad sorry to hear about your bad experience.

My experience with Ebay has been dependant on who you deal with, If the seller or buyer is honest no problem. If he is a A Hole, problems with him and then problems with Ebay. Ebay does not look after the Buyer, or the Seller. Ebay looks after Ebay only and they intentionally make it differcult to complain about a transaction that has gone sour. They seem to hope it all becomes too hard for you and you eventually give up and go away. PayPal an Ebay company, holds millions of dollars of user funds, they give terrible exchange rates and are very slow to release payments. Their protection they offer is great until you have a claim, then there is a reason you don not qualify.

I don't know of many people that have not experienced the dark side of Ebay, the trouble is they hold the majority of online trading in this area. I wish there was an alternative that matched them in size and market reach. I personally hate Ebay

Brad, sorry for the rant, but your experience is just a reflection of what goes on in Ebayville and it brings back memories to me of my bad experiences and how Ebay handled (mis) them.

I recently bought a retro mx t shirt on ebay.
With 20 sec to go it still had no bidds and a starting of $9.99.
I placed a bid of $15.00 and got the reply that I was the high bidder at $9.99.
I then went back to my ebay to find that yes I was the winning bidder but at $13.50.
The end cost isn't an issue but this has happened to me a few times now and I smell a rat.
My brother has dealed on ebay for a long time and I know he has things set up where he programmes in how much he is wiiling to bid and the computer will place his bid for him at the last second, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a simmilar programme for the seller to put in a dummy bid.
Another recent experience I had was a seller asked me if I wanted to pay cash for an item and he would remove it from ebay first but wasn't prepared to negotiate the price.
Because my brother really wanted this item I bought it at the buy it now price on the last day which was a Sunday.
When I turned up on Monday with cash in hand his actual words to me were, " how are we going to do this, you might have to be a non payer.
I was gobsmacked that he thought I might agree to it and told him that I was definitely not interested in that and if he pushed the issue all hell would break loose.

It's a shame the phukers have to spoil a good thing, >:(
there seems to be plenty of dodgy epay deals around now. Multiple user names, mates bidding up goods, ridiculous "handling" charges and all too easy to get out of a "winning" bid.

I should point out that I have a mate who is an ex plod and works for ebay travelling the world advising PD's on ebay fraud & scams.
I've resisted the temptation get him involved in anything so far.

P.S. On one side of the coin the popularity of ebay has driven prices up for the buyer, on the other side we can get more for what we sell.

I had a guy (samcashews) win an item. he then did not contact me or pay. I tried to contact him, no answer, then through ebay he was contacted and he said he no longer wanted the item. Ebay accepted this. So i wrote to ebay and said that i am now happy to hear that i do not have to honour my bids ( of cause i always would anyway). Ebay wrote back and said i would have to honour my bids. Hypocrycy!!! thats why its called EVILBAY. But we all love it

Back when Ebay let you see the username of bidders, I had placed a bid on a motorcycle part being sold by a seller in Victoria and had noticed that a number of bids had been placed by another Ebay member on the item that I had been bidding on that had pushed up the price over my first bid. I thought that the username of the other bidder was familiar, and I found after checking the bidders profile, that the other bidder was selling motorcycle parts on Ebay from the same suburb as the seller. They were not only from the same suburb but!! these Ebay sellers/bidders had the same mobile phone number on their auction listing to ask questions about the item.

I contacted Ebay about this and after their investigation they sent me an email to say that they had found nothing to suggest shill bidding on the item  ???

Not long after this Ebay moved to supposedly protect users privacy by hiding usernames.

I have also found that selling on Ebay since this adoption of privacy is difficult, in that, buyers will wait until the auction has ended then many of them send a barrage of messages telling you, the seller, just how much they will buy the item for.

Ebay is dying. Maybe this site or the Ning one can become the Southern Hemisphere portal for selling bike bits..... hmmm ...... Graeme  :-\

At the end of the day, it's just a chin wag really. I was pissed off but life goes on. I just remembered another auction I had was a xt bottom end, won by a guy up north. No word for a while, asked to get paid and found out he closed his account. Life is full of arseholes, but you try to surround yourself with the good arseholes! :D How are you by the way Bill? :D :D

Ok so you cant retract your bid yourself, you have to ask the seller to retract/cancel your bid

Ebay does not look after the Buyer, or the Seller. Ebay looks after Ebay only

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post a thread bagging E-bay after all the praise E-bay was getting in the ‘wreckers closing down’ thread. ;D ;D

I think if a bidder retracts a bid then all bids from their first bid should be removed, not just their last bid.
I can understand the remaining bidder’s suspicion and your own frustration.
Easiest thing to do is restart the auction which signals your honesty and ban the user from any of your auctions to stop it happening again.
Of course there will always be a new pain to take his place.

i won ($51.75) a alloy s/arm for my ossa in the USA,a guy retracted a very high bit saying he bid the wrong amount, but he wasn't in the bidding history previously??,figure just the sellers mate trying to bid me up on my auto's to see what my max was, must of pissed them off!!(when it was only $55),stuck me for $81 for shipping,s/arm turns up with $45 worth of postage,so i guess he made it up on postage??,go figure,

When a seller uses postage costs to supplyment the purchase price I use a trick I learned from a mate who buys a lot off ebay.
eg  Seller charges ($32 postage and goods arrive showing actual cost of $13.50) I email the seller and say I noticed you have managed to get a better rate on my postage, I realise you might have a small handling charge so if you can arrange to refund me the difference I can then complete your feedback.
Most sellers dont like bad feedback so its surprising how many do refund money to your paypal account.

It is suprising though you try and help some one out local and then they put things on ebay the buggered motor out of my dads car came up on ebay as a perfect runner a1 performance wise and the bore was decked and motor was absolutely stuffed.

I don't understand how some of the sellers sleep at night how can you describe something as perfect when you have been told and or know that it is actually stuffed and missing parts.

I contacted ebay about it and they didn't want to hear it when I am telling them that I know the item is actually beyond repair not complete or a running item ready to go as described by the seller who knows it isn't.

Although I was selling some rims and the guy said I should take them to melbourne because I advertised I could drop them off anywhere in or around Geelong, I said that Melbourne won't be happening and copped alot of abuse but because he hadn't paid he couldn't leave bad feedback as he told me he would so in that respect it can protect you as a seller from cock heads.
