RM500 Oversize Pistons???
« on: January 21, 2011, 01:08:59 pm »
I was thinking about coming out with a 1.00mm oversize piston for the RM500. Is there any interest? Would you rather have a .75mm piston? Is there anything else that you guys are looking for? Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,speaking as the current owner of two RM500's, in my opinion both sizes (0.75mm and 1.00mm)would be of benefit, given the last Suzuki Oversize is 0.50mm.

Conrods for this model are amongst the hardest to find part I have seen as well.

From experience, a lot of people leave re-bores too late for a .25mm increase in bore size or they get a score from some grit which doesnt clean up with .25mm so in that case you have to go to the next .50mm size, so i reckon its probably more worthwhile to go std-.50-1.00-1.50-2.00
Wanted - 1978 TS185 frame or frame&motor. Frame # TS1852-24007 up to TS1852-39022

I have been looking for a suitable replacement, but I haven't found anything yet that will work. I had a rod that I was going to modify and then I find out it's discontinued!

I've been trying to come up with replacement rods for the RM370, RM400, RM465 and RM500. I haven't found anything that will work or that can be modified.

Someone has suggested that a KTM 360/380 con rod has similar dimensions to a RM 400T rod. Any truth to this??

Yeah that was Lozza that said that so im pretty sure he has given correct info there. He would have the same rod dimension charts as i do, probably more also.

I think the KTM/Maico rod is .5mm longer. I did a ton of research on this about a year ago and I could not find anything that would work , either OEM or aftermarket, that wouldn't require a spacer between the cylinder and the crankcases.

KTM 360/380 rod is the dimensions I posted the 0,5mm will not make any difference, just use a thick base gasket.
