i cant believe that someone thinks they can make a comment stating what THEY think a bike is worth!   in our capitalist system an item is WORTH OR VALUED AT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT CHANGES HANDS AT THE TIME OF TRANSACTION. its bullshit saying that a bike is only worth 5 grand and thats the end of it. there are many many variables in how or why a product sells.  i get jack of people that carry on negatively at a high price on a bike.

Yea you are correct, but if someone asks for opinions then i think its acceptable to give a band of what it may sell for currently. there was a rm125a recently asking if it was worth resto before selling.....

Is that because you're asking a high price for your bikes?
This  is a forum not the trading post and people are entitled to their opinion.
With the amount of good quality cheap bikes coming out of the US these days the times of 9 and 10 grand Jap bikes are gone unless it's a Mugen or RH Suzuki or similar.

I did.. not a problem if you buy right and do the work yourself. The bike was $1500 with the Ohlins, i bought the parts and rebuilt the engine and bought the GMC pipe and a set of plastics from Nightmare racing. ;)

Well shouldn't be a problem then so no need for people to complian about prices of other bikes if you are prepared to do all the hard work yourself. ;)

Thanks Frosty...But i`ll deal with the palookas

So Johnny O...You can turn this

into this for $ 5K including purchase price ( which by the way was $ 500.00 ) So my maths says you have $ 4,500.00 to play with

or this

into this for $ 5K incl purchase price ( $ 950.00 ) You have $ 4,050.00 to invest

Georgy boy...It`s quite obvious you are not coming to Buladelah...So why don`t you air your budget masterpieces at Firko`s charity auction in March at the Alroy Tavern

Mark loves nothing more than low cost, no bling racing bikes so i reckon you could even take home a trophy

And guess what George you may even help out someone less fortunate than yourself in the process.

This is a restored 1981 YZ 250 H from Vintage Iron in the states . USD $ 6,000.00 is the price. Ship it to Australia, change the tank stickers, seat cover , number plate backgrounds, fork gaitors, footpegs and fit a flat side carby and  then if it is perfectly sound engine and suspension wise how much do you think it would owe you.

I would not think you would get any change from 9K

I think it really depends on your Trade (if your a Tradie) apart from the wheels and shock rebuild what are the big costs? Given that you buy repo plastic not NOS.

Complete rebuild on engine which includes:
NOS cylinder ported by Bill Clem (Great Escape Cycles),
New top end: piston, rings, clips, needle bearing, head gasket,
New bottom end: All new bearings, seals, gaskets, clutch rods with cherry picked gears,
Good clutch basket and recently replaced the clutch plates and springs.

DG Gold Head
34mm Mikuni bored to 35mm with UFO slide modification
Aftermarket reeds and spacer
Custom repackable silencer
New UNI filter
’81 YZ 125 shock rebuilt by Sage Suspension
Forks rebuilt
’83 YZ dual cam front brake
2.15 rear gold Sun rim with heavy duty spokes
’81 YZ 125 front DID gold rim
Powder coated frame
Restored tank, side panels, front fender
New rear fender and front number plate
Replaced bearings in wheels, swingarm and steering head
New cables
New fork boots
Shorty levers
Whirlpool throttle
Aftermarket folding shift lever
Allen bolts throughout engine (my preference)
Tires have only a few races on them

The bike is $2,500 and I also have a boatload of spares (engines, frame, suspension, wheels, seats, plastic, electrics, etc. and misc. NOS parts) not included but I could be persuaded to part with these given the right price and shipping arrangements.

Given that the bike is in CA its about $1200 freight.
