I got this seat cover today from the mob in en zed. I cant remember their name. Looks the goods, i got gripper on top as i found myself slipping off the back(imagine that!). I am going to get a trimmer to put it on better 'cause i suck at it. This thing has my '84 500 front end and rear wheel on it as it had upside downs on it. I wanted to ride the vets at the moderns and i sold my modern. The only other thing i did is put a nos rear guard on it as well.

Shes an RF. The wheels are off my RE. I dusted the motor on the RE500 and now ride my RD 480 in pre '85, so the poor re is in pieces, waiting in line patiently

what happened to the RE? i have never ridden an RE how do they compare with the RF? i think you posted once that you prefer the 480RD over the 500RE it that right or did i see someone else post that.

Reason i ask is i am thinking about one of the 2 air cooled pre 85's

I didn't oil the air filter properly, left a dry spot. I still cry myself to sleep. I do prefer the 83 as it has a broader powerband. A few pinging issues with the 84 as well.

Thanks Andrew.Hope you dont mind Hoony(hijacking the thread), i just took a couple of the 480. Talking about the 500 re, i reckon that the DG pipe might make it even more peaky, the band just seems real narrow. If i ever race the 84 again ,i will probably get GMC to make me one that broadens it out more.Other than that shes still a great bike.

i own both a 500RE and 500RF...i found the 84 motor a lot more smoother and easier to ride than the 85...mind you i only rode it once and then parked her...shes gettin a few things done to make it a little better to ride..eg shock rebuild, frame welded and painted, new seat cover(this one didnt come from eco) ,clutch and so on....... and there was no pingin what so ever that day i rode it...nothin like my old yz490K anyway...mind you i absolutely luv the power of the 85 its a very very powerful bike...power ive never ever experienced before on another ride .... :o

highjack as much as you want guys i am enjoying the talk of Big reds. seems we all have 85's in common, as 090 said "with an 85', you know your alive",  but they are very ridable, short shifts are a treat, and even if my reaction time is not so good i allways get good starts.

the 480 looks the goods Brad. i am tending this way at present am will take some time to think it over as i have a lot of things on the go at present non bike related.

Whats wrong with the clutch Andrew?

when i first took it for a ride id pull the clutch in, snick her into gear then she would start chuggin..wantin to go....got talkin to the local bike mechanic about it the other week and he said it would be a worn clutch basket..so i did the right thing myself and had a look and yes he was right..the basket has grooves all worn through it...and some hair line cracks... :o   is there an after market type  of clutch you can still get for this model..im thinkin barnett clutches,EBC or maybe honda oem might be the go...cheers :)
