thats what i plan on doin to mine when it turns up this week...i was thinkin, drain it after every ride and put fresh stuff in every six months...
I have been told to drain it by some, and to keep putting fresh coolant in every 6 months by others as it goes off. Which box would you tick Hoony and others?

Yes draining is the the only and safest option from stopping corrosion , because of the magnesium content of the cast. But put a tag on the throttle , (no coolant )

That's great mate, i want to see some pics and an update on the frame issue (welding). they are a wild ride, can't wait to get it going and have a blast again.

Leave the water in with a good inhibitor. If it has no water it will corrode.
My81 CR125 was left sitting since 83 started maybe 10 times in that time span
restored in 06/07 inside the pump, rads was like brand new.

you didn't waste time taking it out for a Blat then Andrew (like a kid at xmas, huh). sounds like its got a nice strong engine then. as a matter of interest how does it compare to the 84 you have as i have never riden an 84 model.

How did the welds look that concerned you?

yer i couldnt help myself i just had to take her out for a few quiet laps....was grinnin from ear to ear.....but this morning im not real happy with it cause ive given her the once over again and ive found a small crack in the side of the motor beside the sprocket covered up with silicone of some sort....looks fixable but its gunna cost some moola $$$.have to pull the motor out of the frame and tear it to bits and get it welded up...while im at it im going to clean up the welds underneath the frame and might paint it as well... seat needs some attention too ...new cover and probably foam ...gee this is gunna bust me... :o you might be interested in my shed heres a pic ..

nice shed alright, i see the 500RE is getting some work done as well. better fish that one first before you start another. i have original Honda parts book (1984-1987) and workshop manual (1984-1987)  for them so email me if you need any info.
