There is no doubt in my mind that this forum has recently been a lot harder to like.  :-\  It's really hard work to enjoy reading and the sh*tfights are just plain destructive for our sport.

Some of this is because people post crap, then delete it when they have second thoughts.  The deleting of threads and posts needs to be prevented in my opinion.  That way, people might think more before they fire off a broadside.

Secondly, some people on here think it's funny to be abrasive, overbearing in their opinions and in some cases, just downright offensive.  We don't need to name and shame those people, no doubt they would gain more satisfaction if their names were mentioned.

And of course the multiple personalities is also just BS.

For heaven's sake - this used to be a friendly, funny and informative forum about VMX bikes.  Why not try to return to the old ways?

So please Graeme - time really has come for everyone who shows open disrespect towards other members to be booted out.  Also, please check the IP numbers and boot out the duplicates while you're there...  ;)

and lastly of course, please disable the ability of non-members to post.  :o

Well said Ajay, I couldn't agree more.
I personally hate hypocrites that post a certain viewpoint but follow another and don't have the balls to leave it up long enough for all to see how thick they really are.
Don't bring personal vendettas here.

That's true, non-members cannot post. I still disagree with the argument that posters should not be able to delete their posts, but willing to listen to people's views.

As far as disrespect and so on, perhaps you are right. I read some of the US forums and thought they were pretty open in allowing 'robust' discussion, but it does get tiresome the amount of personal abuse they dish up. So, what's the view? Do we get heavier on those who get too personal in their comments?

On that matter, I might mention I've had a couple of serious complaints about just that sort of thing recently, so I realise we need to be careful...

Very easy to mouth off on a forum when you dont have to talk face to face. Also very easy to hide behind multiple pseudonyms. Perhaps we could all man up and use our real names. Cheers Jerry PS Hey Graeme what about posting a simple code of conduct guideline for appropriate behaviour for those that struggle with basic respect.

Yes, good idea Jerry. I will try to draft something up over the coming days. Please post your ideas for a draft 'code of conduct' under the new topic I will start in a moment.

OK, I had forgotten that is what happens when someone is no longer a member  :-[

The deleting of posts REALLY needs to be stopped... PLEASE  Only moderators and admin should be able or allowed to delete posts.  No other forum I participate in allows deleting by members and they are much better behaved as a result.

Really, there should be NO personal comments at all in a discussion forum such as this.  They only lead one direction...  ::)

Excuse me for wading in up to my armpits but .......

Maybe we could all just take two teaspoons of cement in the morning and harden the f*ck up.
Who really cares if someone calls you a nasty name or whatever.  It's a forum of motorcycle riders.  It isn't aunty Mary's frickin knitting forum.

Geez People stop being so precious and let's just enjoy talking about bikes, how to restore them and how to get them going better.

So what if Montessa's are peices of crap.  WHO CARES?? They are still fun to ride.  There are probably a hundred other bikes that some people love that are heaps of crap too, but we still love 'em.
I've never met anything on two wheels that I didn't enjoy riding.

Let's just move on with our lives.  Anyone that has been here long enough knows we have been through all this stuff before.  How about we park our egos out the back and just talk about what we all love.

Bring back Rubberneck I say.  This forum was certainly far more intesting back then.

There - I've said it.  ;)

Edit - not a shot at you 414 - just a general observation

Totally agree re deleting post  ::) only moderators should be able to delete post.

I dont know how feasable it is to stop the multiple ideniteys  but it would be good if it could be done .

When all said and done Graeme provides this great site and forum for us at no charge and its up to us the members not to be a pain in the arse and treat the forum with respect .

Hello all. I only have one identity, it is my real name, Mick De. I figure this thread would be the best place to find Montesa collectors at the moment. I need one of those you bueat twin leading shoe front stoppers that the early Impallas and some 68, 69 GP 360 Cappras used. I need it to pull Precious up, when she hits 125 mile per hour.

Is the multiple identities thing still a problem? The serial offenders all seem to have stopped doing it (or gotten a LOT better at it), and now that Nimmo Girl has also gone, I'm not aware of any active multiple personality disorders.

(Although, Is it OK if I keep my "Mainline" log in? I only use it when when I've got sand in my vagina? That's OK, isn't it?)

Serious reply: What YZ250H said.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

It's all my fault this slagfest re erupted and I'll cop it on the chin. I took the opportunity to take a good old fashioned cheap shot at Ross and while it's probably not conducive to good forum behavior or political correctness, bugger it...he deserved it and I feel better for doing it. ;D

On the removal of posts situation, I'm of two minds. Sometimes we make a post that's done in haste, contains errors or just plain doesn't read right once its online so it's handy to have the option to remove it. I generally stick with my original post and cop the consequences of its content but I recently made a couple of posts during the heat of the pre 90 debate that once up didn't read the way I'd intended them, so I pulled them. I believe the right to self edit should remain despite the frustration of seeing good interesting posts and in some cases whole threads go missing for no sensible reason.

The multiple member thing is another thing that can be a problem. I've been guilty in the past but haven't used any other sign ons for quite a while now. It'd be nice if the others guilty of the same "crime" could be as open. I believe that most of the ulterior identities were invented purely for fun as mine were and Maico Girl which I actually thought was funny. Magoo and I shared an extra identity (Sun Prarie Jimmy) that we had some fun with. It even got to the point that we gave the login to a few different members so that at one stage four or five different guys were posting under the same name which really confused one particular forum member who thought he had Sun Praries identity worked out ;D. Magoo thought it was a hoot. It was the same with the born again Christian Bultaco Rally posts of a few years ago (Sherpa S, Grant and the Cocoa Fluffies crew). I got the blame but in truth the posts were done by a committee of good 'ol boys having a bit of fun at el Clubo Bultacos expense. It was all good fun but when multiple identities are used purely to slag people off it stops being fun.

Lets all lighten up a bit and get back to the great vibe that separated this forum from the rest. I'll do my bit.
