Someone told me once that there is an oval somewhere (i cant remember, where exactly but i think in Vic or NSW) and he said there is a heap of old Indians and or Harleys burried under the oval. I think they were left overs from WW2 or something. I also know a few guys who go up north in SA and look for old Harley, Indian, Triumph, BSA etc parts out in the desert regions and at old rubbish dumps, but they reckon they have cleared most of the stuff out now and a lot of it, at least the good stuff is gone, but back 20-30 years ago there was stacks of old bikes up there at old stations and just burried out in the desert at dumps. In the next few years i have to restore a 1930's Harley for a guy who paid $100 for it to take it off a guy who was on his way to the dump with it about 15-20 years ago and all the old Harley guys say you will just never get any bargains like that any more and you harldly see any 20's and 30's Harley stuff at swapmeets nowdays.

How about a Honda Goldwing K1, in pieces but only missing speedo, resto project for when the racing days are over. Wonder how i`ll go at the RTA when proof of owner ship is a $10 reciept from the local tip.
Couple of CR`s

Our local tip grabs all that kind of stuff and has a big shed where they sell it but I reckon you'd have to be very quick to spot it first. :)

Ours does too, but they let all of the good stuff through, and save utter crap. There was a 90% complete DT1F in the scrap pile, while the 'shop' had a chip-board set of drawers that were falling apart!?
I made the mistake of asking about getting the DT1, and was point blank refused.
Of course, if I'd just dragged it out of the pile and into the ute, I probably wouldn't have been challenged for it.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Just had a thought. I reckon that that oval i mentioned is at Griffith or Wrangaratta (dont know how to spell it) or maybe Albury Woodonga. Those are names that ring a bell to me and i reckon it starts with  'W' and is in the border sort of area of Vic-NSW. There would have to be an old local that knows about it.

If it were in wangaratta the rust wouldn't be a problem inland a fair bit but it is a big place so I am guessing if any thing were there it wouldn't be now.

Another good place to find interesting dumped stuff are these little unmaned temporary scrap metal yards popping up around our area. 2 guy's that I work with have over the last 3 or 4 months spotted and grabbed a full ride on mower and a couple of weeks ago a complete GPX250. The one that got the mower is now cutting his lawns with it and the one with the GPX has got it going and nearly ready to register it. Amazing what people throw away.

Stan.

The people who run the dump are real people and let you have bikes for a couple of bucks, the 78 xt500 i found had no tank.
the bike cost me 5 bucks , took it home cleaned the points and away it went and runs strong.
1 week later and went back and the alloy tank was there and a front wheel off a late model it, and had the axle and twin leading brake.

The urban myth as I heard it was that when the 2nd war was done & dusted, the Yanks, who were baracked     at Homebush in Syd, buried heaps of equipement along with dozens of WLA's ( still in crates ) when they moved out.
I'm pretty sure they would've been found during the Olympic development.
My father had a bike shop in Syd during the late 50 's and through heaps of Harley's away because no one wanted them.
Shame.

Just be careful about what you get from the tip.I heard about a guy who got a scooter from the local tip shop only to find out later when he went to rego it that it was stolen.
