« on: May 23, 2010, 05:35:39 pm »

All came from the Mount Isa dump,The xt500 and xl500 run and the it250 needs a new cdi.

I hate cleaning up.

An aboriginal walks into a bar with an Ibis on his shoulder. "I'll have a pint" says the Aboriginal. "Where did you get that?" said the bartender.
The Ibis says "I found him at the tip!"

Hardhaacker, it's coincidence that you're going to Mackay as that's where we had one of our good tip finds. I was visiting my mate (I'm from Sydney) who serviced pumps and compressors for a living. I went with him on one of his daily service runs and the final service call of the day was to the local bus company. Behind the bus shed was a tip of sorts where they dumped old bus tyres and other junk. After Rob had done his gig at the bus depot I was sitting in his van while he sorted the paperwork. The van faced the tip and while staring out at the tyre pile I saw something shiny sitting on top. Curiosity got the better of me so over I wandered to see what it was. Bugger me if it wasn't a '74  Maico alloy coffin tank in perfect nick. A bit more digging uncovered the frame, front wheel and forks, seat and much of the 250 engine. When we asked the bloke at the bus depot about the stuff he told us it'd been dumped there a couple of years earlier by a bloke who had once worked there. The bus guy had only placed the tank on top of the tyre pile earlier that day after finding it inside a tyre. If he hadn't done that, and if we hadn't gone there that day we wouldn't have got the stuff for the six pack of NQ Lager it cost us and it'd probably still be there.

I found a really rusty A50 BSA at the tip about 10 years ago which I sold on and I know of a guy who found an M11 Bultaco Metisse in almost complete condition at a tip in countrt Victoria a few years ago. The best tip find I ever saw though was the 1958 Corvette roller a Swedish friend found at a tip in Bishop California in 1984 and bought for $100. It'd been a drag car and was in ratty shape but have you seen the price on '58 Corvettes today? It's now restored and living in Sweden.

Yeah in the early 90's i found 2 RM250A's at a local Gold Coast dump and took the carbies off them and left them there! Been kicking myself ever since but vintage racing was only pre '75 then so i figured they were useless.

The buried ossa is a shame but you can only imagine how many great bikes have went to the tip over the years why new ktm's are going there already.

My TM125 Zook was a dump shop find along with about half an XT500.
I had to pass up on what appeared to be a complete but stripped first model XL250 a few years back as I had no where to put it!
There are alot of bikes that get dumped up here but it seems there is a bit of competition.

Hardhaacker, where is the Isa dump? I'm passing through on Tuesday 2June on the way to CD7. I might have a nosey

Most dumps these days have savaging rules (or non-savaging rules) and someone there to enforce them. If you are a local you should leave a phone number and a 'expression of interest' in old motorcycles and you'll probably get first or second 'right of refusal' ;) :) for the occasional beer down the pub.

The best I've done is pick up a few bits dumped in the bush :-\.

The bloke that worked at my local dump for a while was an old dirt bike nut too, so no chance of anyone else getting anything.  :-\

I spoke to a guy who took a load to the dump and spotted a wheel sticking out of some other rubbish. He had a look and discovered it was a complete Bultaco of some sort. He pulled it out and put it on the trailer. The guy that worked there saw him and told him to put it back as they had a strict policy on removing stuff!!!. He said he was prepared to pay the guy something and didn't expect it for free, but was still told to put it back. So he did. If it was me, I would have gone back after hours and taken it. 8) 8)
I think it was in Bunbury WA.
