'71 TS125R project surprise
« on: December 18, 2007, 07:53:00 pm »
I've a TS125R project bike I've been toying with a bit in the last few weeks. Today I was doing a little suspension sorting when I noticed something..the TS stuff felt lighter to handle than the TM equivalent. What the!!  :o Sure enough out came the scales (calibrated of course ;) )
The TS frame weighs in at 9.80kgs against a TM125 of 10.050kgs.
TS swingarm weighs 8g more than a TM swingarm
TS top triple clamp weighs 550g against the TM item weighing 760g
TS 'steel' steering stem weighs 1.495kg and the TM alloy job is 1.510kgs

Together these few TS125 parts weigh near a 1KG (900ish grams to be exact) less then the TM125 counterpart..try finding that sort of weight reduction by drilling holes or using alloy brakes stays and such! Incidently the TM complete weighs 85kgs and the TS125 is 90kg with all the road gear and battery etc..I found this interesting and it only adds a little more incentive toward this project.

uh huh..he did  :-\ I notice smaller dia tubing used quite extensively and since I have never seen or head of an old TS frame breaking I figure the TM125 chassis maybe a bit of an overkill..have heard of the larger capacity (TM400) snapping behind the headset ala the famous pic of Joel Robert and his lowrider RH250. This weight crap is not going to make a pooftheenth of difference in the long run but it really did surprise me none the less..

If your interested Doc I have a couple of lightweight 'left-overs'

I have a centre mount plastic tank that was fitted to a TM125 (needs tap but has cap) and

I have a dented 'hop-up kit' pipe, I bought it for my TM125 but it exits at a different angle (tail is about 3 inches lower than TM)
and I don't think it was ever meant to have a muffler fitted but it has similar mounts to a TM but no muffler mounts
or any evidence they were ever fitted.

If you want these parts you can have them for $50 + postage
I can send some pics too... ;D

yes CG..about me and million others.. ;) I imagine it's in many peoples watch list awaitng the final seconds. Have seen a NOS item sell for over $200US which is crazy when I can buy 1 new and have it delivered to my door for $230au. The reason they are expensive from new is because of the magnesium content. The reason they are expensive used is because they break if you blink at them too hard  ??? I bet this item goes for about $100us. Been using some rainy days to swap some bits around on the TS125R mxer and after looking at prices I've decided the TS cover is the perfect choice..cost was nil and it keeps the TS theme going ;D

PS..has my bro dropped by to collect the TS goods yet ?  I've not heard boo from him  ???

I put up the early one to show that it was the same ebay user who keeps outbidding me on TM stuff, he also won 2 NOS mag covers this year both for OVER $250US  :o :o

Hats off, my mistake. Some of them fly into bid fever and trash it for us all. Still worth plugging away though, I have got all my riding gear to take up vmx off ebay for less than half price, and a few other wins as well. But you gotta shrug sometimes, as you log off gritting your teeth....

I found some real bargains and paid through the teeth for others in my time, anyone who comes up with a fibreglass or CNC replacement for under $100US will do brisk business.
