Looks awsome exept for the green in the tank, should that be green?, looks like they were originaly gold?

I have a huge soft spots for Monty's and have owned a few the 69 Capra was a handsome bike the VR 250 was a head turner the little VE 125 one of the prettiest bikes ever made but the 414 is just ugly.
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

Unfortunatly, the olive green is the oem colour for the side panels.

The 67 cappra GP 250 was a beautiful looking and it handled very well. and my very first model monty was the gray tank 125, love that bike.

Yeah you're right. The green in the tank is wrong and when I get the patience to scrape it out one night it's going.

I agree they're ugly. Head like a smashed pastie. But you can't mistake them for anything else!

Let me know when Mr 66 is down here again Stan. I'd like to get a good pic of you two and this bike. A bit of Western Vic Mont history..... ;)

Nearly there!



I managed to pick up some Talon sprockets that need a teeny bit of work to make fit at a very good price so it's getting a decent chain as well.
I ended up replacing the spokes but kept the original rims. It was hard not to powdercoat the hubs whilst they were apart but I figured it'd look a little strange with restored hubs on the bike so I left them as they were. It was an even bigger call not to lace up an 18" wheel however I'm glad i stuck with the 17". It took a bit of shopping around but I found a tyre for it that I'm happy with and I wouldn't wanna be behind it when it lights up! :D




Oh yeah. I bung a set of Ohlins on as well. ;)


All the 'good stuff' for the controls....


And I got rid of that ridiculous little front plate in favour of something that the ACU would have been proud of at the time.

All new rubber bits and finally a proper airboot from the box to the carb (for all three of them). :)



Just gotta finish the pipe (which turned into a major pain in the butt), get the right spacers for the shocks and..............that should be about it! :)

Looking good Ross you where the only one that could see the diamond in the rough. The ebay photos certainly didn't indicate the jewel within  ;).

Have to say that the VE is not my favourite of the Monties. I had one in '79 but you are right they can not be mistaken for anything else. The colour is sort of unique in a repulsive sort of way but once that 414 engine starts putting the power to the ground like only the '77-'83 Monties can you forget about the colour.

Bloody number plate is big enough to put your name on it twice  ;D once right way up and once upside down just in case :D. Never know which way up the bike may land :o and you need to identify it ;)

all it needs now is a Mikuni carby and it will fly.

went for a ride on the CR 500 Husky last night wow its white lightening.  HL
