If you tried to build the same spec with big bore CR360/390 motor then you would drop 4K on the motor (including core), $1500 on the forks, $500 on the swingarm, $1000 on the shocks,

You will have to show us an itemised account for that 4k rebuild, as I'm struggling to see more than $1k.

I think nobody in business needs to give you itemized anything, however, lets see my wild guess is, core motor $5-600, rebuilt ME360 kit, piston, barrel, crank, rod kit, including gear box giving it away at $2000, machining of casings $400, seals, fasteners and bearings $400, labour at $50 * 16 = $800

Last 250 I built with replating the cylinder was close to $500, add piston, rod kit, seals, all bearings, gaskets, all fasteners, blasting and painting, labour.

Depends on what kind of job you want to do,

The reality is anyone who hasn't built a bike like that never will and never will own a bike like that so they cant justify the build cost involved. That Honda 125 above, the tank alone would cost $800 to a grand!, maybe more (and worth every cent).  I like trickery (if thats a word) and thats what makes the world go round......imagine no Ducati's, no Mugens, no OW.s, no SR's, no RH/ RN,s, no Ferraries, no Dodge Vipers, no Astin Martins (no James Bond ), no Monaro's, no GT-HO's, no 6 pak anything.....I'll just kill myself now?. It's cool to own and build something like this whether it be original or genuine.

Good thing about VMX is it adjusts to your budget, though normally to the maximum side of mine.  ;D

The Marty Smith replica CR125 might cost 10 grand but it isn't going to win anymore than that RM125B you picked up for $1500./ It is just nice to own.

The way i see it... are you building... or are you paying someone to build it ? I grew up around engine building where you cant get factory or after market parts. You want rings... you make em, so to speak.

We're talking about a 360 Mugen engine right?.. If someone can build one for $1000 that LOOKS like a 360 Mugen and not just a bored and stroked 250 then i'm with BigK and i'll grab several also.
The value is in the genuine MUGEN parts not just the fact it's a 360.

Yes you're right, my comments are mainly based on paying other people to do simple work that can blow a budget into the abis.

cheers.

If I read the ad correctly, its a bored and stroked motor and not a Mugen kit. Is this correct?

Brad is correct, this one is a "360 big bore" kitted engine. The Mugen one, if it ever gets up for sale, will be HEAPS dearer again! I think I'll add a line to the add: cheapskates, tightarses and those who have NFI, need not apply.
