Yeah I have a couple of the fellow from Bendigo's bikes and they are worth every cent.  Mint paint, rebuilt everything, no short cuts.

If you tried to build the same spec with big bore CR360/390 motor then you would drop 4K on the motor (including core), $1500 on the forks, $500 on the swingarm, $1000 on the shocks, so 7 grand so far.....now all you need is frame $400, pipe $600, nice wheels $1000, tank $300, paint $400, plastics $400, cables $200, airbox $100, chain, sprockets, tyres and the million and one bits to make final assembly.

Yep you can probably get a few $$$ off the bits on ebay but allow for freight, rebuilding them and you soon get back up to decent money. You are buying same level bike as Maico 490 and it is the same money.

Yeah I think with the 360 you are in the Gucci CR department and it costs what it costs. Of course icing on the cake would be full Foxy suspension but you can't have everything for 9 grand.

You can add a set of Fox forks & clamps no problems, I have them on hand. $3K extra but! Actually I think the Simons forks are about to find their way on to a certian 430 Husqvarna, best adjust the add. MXfool, if you think this is steep, what about $30K for the Lackey RC450 replica? I'd say you've never built a bike to a high or concours standard. I can do you a standard CR250RZ for $5500.
Cheers,
K

I reckon the Honda's on the money too. Marc puts it right when he maps out the component costs. Add $60+per hour labour to the mix and it's a really good deal.

My only concern about 360 Mugens is in the reliability of the transmission. I remember that the RZ had a marginal tranny that was known to go bang with a stock 250 engine (a dodgy 3rd gear from memory). How does the Mugen handle the increased torque of an extra 110cc? This isn't a criticism of the bike, just an honest question. ;)

genuine concern Firko - but not so difficult to rectify permanently nowadays as there are quite a few spares for these around.

Rossco

PS - for an ME360 it is a good price.

Hi Firko,

There was someone in the UK making upgraded 2/3 gear, I believe Mugen had their own gear upgrade back in the day on the later bikes.

Hey BigK, 3 grand for the Forks sounds very reasonable. What do you think a set of mint Simons forks and clamps are worth ?.

$2K+, not as desirable as Fox, but not too far behind. Mugen kit comes with upgraded gears. Having said that if you know the gearboxes were suspect, wouldn't you treat it with a little respect? I would. Got a Marty Smith replica '77 CR125 on the "to do" list as well, won't be cheap either!
Cheers,
K
