That's Jim Airey Freaky and just like the road racing bars they're called clip on's.
I have a pair that were used by Geoff Curtis around the same time.
Where is the group shot taken, I recognize a few heads, Airey, Olsen, Titman, Boulger, Landels and the blond dude is Merv Janke I think.

It's interesting to me to see where different riders and different horsepower plus different traction all make a difference to where the left foot [or right foot] is positioned. Obviously higher or lower CofG has a big effect as well.
The difference for inst. foot trailing, and the modern bike more upright brings the foot tucked in behind the front wheel.
A new thing [to me] I saw on the KofN last weekend, one of the very fast slider riders coming out of the speedway bend with his left foot up on the peg and his right foot up near the front axle. I guess it helped to minimise the front wheel drifting, the surface was pretty slippery at the time.
cheers pancho.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

Isn't that Gordon Guasco with JA and the clip ons ?? and  I got as far as you except Merv Janke with the Craven A group shot, That would have to be an OZ title wouldnt it ? Liverpool maybe??

Just had another look at the Craven filter shot, isnt that GG far right ?? he's tall enough and third from left, kneeling, Barry van Praag maybe ?
