Thats Bert Harkins on the bike in the last photo. I've been hangin' out for a pic of him!
He was my fav. rider at Brooklyn Speedway Melbourne when i was a kid. I had a jacket with his name sewn on to it along with some of his badges!
I was able to go into the pits and talk to the riders (it's who you know)and Bert was always good for a chat. Could'nt understand him but that made it better! :D
He was a Scotsman.   p.s. this thread is only going to get longer 'cause i've got heaps more photos to come :) :)  p.p.s. best of to all those going to the dirt track champs. stay safe  cheers  mark

It's just a plain old 2 Valver Hoony, the lighting does make the Rocker Cover look a bit different.
I agree, more than likely Costa Mesa, the Yanks loved the small track but Costa Mesa was ridiculous.

Thanks  Freaky. Great photos of Bert "the haggis" Harkins. What a dude. Sure did put a smile on my face. Wonder what ever happened to him?
cheers,  Mark.

Hey , Slider
Mark, if you have a look at this link, http://www.vintagespeedway.com/Davis2.html  you will find some shots of Bert, including one wearing the kilt responsible for the incident at Liverpool that I spoke of.

BTW, he has or had a website, www.bertharkinsracing.co.uk , but apparently his business has been taken over by Ascerbis.
Foss
PS
I forgot to say earlier, Langy is in touch with Bert regularly.

Not sure its a real kilt, it looks like a nana rug, as its got the tassle on it, you know the picnic rugs ya mum used to take and spread out.  and he put a belt around it.   Reckon thjats where he went wrong the tassle got all wrap in the tyre.

Hey Foss, It's lucky only Bert's kilt got stuck in the back wheel and not  his HAGGIS. :D
He sure was a showman.  thanks again Freaky,  regards  Mark

Just got off the phone from an old mate of mine, a Dirt Track sidecar guru, who has been following this thread for some time.
He did mention the lack of outfit photos on here, so this is one of the few shots I have with sidecars in it, so  here ya go, Banksy, best I could do fer now !

Parade lap at Canberra Longtrack circa '94, #9 Springer, in the background and #41 Cec Platt in front, and I've always thought the #34 outfit looked a bit unusual, now I know why , it's got hub centre steering.
