Wally, Seeing the photo of your dear old Hagon makes me realise just how big a lump those Yamaha engines are, it certainly fills the engine room quite adequately ;D. I recall that when Chris Ellis replaced the XL350 engine in his Elstar with a TT Yamaha he had to do quite a lot of creative engine plate work just to wedge the motor in there. There was very little room between the rear of the engine and the swingarm pivot so he had to move the pivot rearward an inch or two and use the a shorter XL Honda swingarm to keep the wheelbase within reason. I wish I could find pics of it.

Well as you know Mark mine's in an Elstar frame and there is no spare room.
I suspect the frame may have been built for a 2/ motor-unit  because there doesn't appear to be enough room for a seperate gearbox.
Plus the swinging arm pivot mount was so flimsy I used a third  engine plate to stop the thing flopping in the middle.

I don't know much about the different frames and what they were made to suit.

cheers

I've been trying to track down a photo of this bike for a while , finally found it and as far as I know it's the only photo of it  in existence.
Story is, TD had clagged a motor in his Hagon Bully and we scouted around and found this motor in an old Short Circuit sidecar.
It's a semi unit 500 twin BSA, gearbox bolted to the crankcases, and it fitted in the Hagon quite easily, bloody thing was on methanol etc. etc. and went like a scalded cat.

The photo was taken when I was test riding it before a teams race event at Nepean
Foss
Reminds me of my comment on resticting sliders to "single cyl 2valve etc etc" . There WAS a bit of variation back in 'the day'
cheers

Right on slides, Phil O'brien in front from memory.

That Musswelbrook was something else! The fastest dirt track I ever saw, Hardley SHORT circuit!!

The other pic was young pancho at an A.C.U sports day at Fairfield West '62or3, A well attended event with flag bending, hot plug race, long jump and more stuff like that.

A good social event that doesn't seem to happen anymore.
cheers pancho.

I know you won't mind Walter but I put that photo on facebook and it only took 30 min for Paul Caslick to say 819 is his dad Bob, of Speedway sidecar fame.
