PE250T Engine & RM250N frame
« on: January 28, 2010, 09:16:00 pm »
I'm after the following:
A good, running PE250T engine along with all ancillaries i.e. carby, ignition, pipe etc
A '79 RM250N frame, fuel tank, seat & side covers. Or a complete rolling frame.
Will also consider PE250T front end, wheels and swingarm.
All prefereably in very good order, but will consider anything.
Cash waiting.
Email, pm or phone me on 0410 504 815 with what you've got, price and location.

Tony,
Pe  T and X are very much the same bike, main difference being T has a bash plate and X have wings 99.9% of parts will interchange  ;) and both these bikes share a lot in common with the Rm of previous year.
They do pop up on a regular basis quite cheap, main point to look for is crack in frame above above LHS foot peg -      MOTOR's    chain rash in front of sprocket.

There was a rolling 82 250 Z down at Two Wheel Recyclers at Hackam which is also the same. not sure they still have it though. was pretty rough but had complete motor.

Any particular reason you want the PE-N front end instead of the T? Do you want the non full width hub?
Also any particlular reason you need 79 RM frame? 80 RM250/400 frame will also work too.

Others are going to have to chime in here as to whether the 79 PE swing arm fits 79 RM frame which had an alloy swingarm. The RM was usually a year ahead development wise of the PE.

On the front rims take a real good look at them for cracks if your hoping to use the rim. Its very common for them to crack at the weld join which is under the takasakgo stickers.

Engine and electrics are all the same for 80-82 except for minor differences on some 82 parts like different clutch (plates same though) and kickstart drive gear all which the T/X superceded to anyway, so its all interchangeable and all 3 can be considered the same with just refinements and improvements over 3 years. Theres often this stuff on ebay so its not exactly impossible to find although if you want the exact Australian spec stator and flyhwheel that will be more difficult. Other model stuff can me made to work and you can build up stators using new primary and pulsar coils onto an old stator plate. Its not as much of a drama as others will make it out to be. Nothing is impossible there.

Carby is the same as found on the 400 except for jetting differences. They are just a 36mm VM mikuni. You might want to consider a new one which are not that expensive off ebay and then just jet to your required specs.

Maybe I should come clean now..............
I want to build an "RS250".  ;D
After much research, I've established that it is an RM250N frame, seat, tank and side covers, PE250T engine and PE250T wheels and forks. Sorry Leith, I meant PE250T front end with the full width hub.

Thanks for the info, boys.

Hi Tony Rs I thought they were more a playbike like not a full blown PE or RM somewhere inbetween I spose it would be cheaper to make one than to buy one from US not that they sell for mega$ over there just shipping it back so if it were a rm-n frame were they non complianced thanks Michael.

Ok that makes sense. I will hunt down my RS articles then. I was pretty sure the 1980 RS250 T had DR400 T forks (US model) well thats what one article says. Alpha Sports and the Zedder cross ref program will be handy for you. Your lucky the rubber tail lights are still available brand new for about $29US and the rectangle headlights are not too hard to find either.

Ok assuming those pics are right in the parts book, the frame you would want then is a 80-82 PE250/400 frame and then you just need to cut the rear loop off. To be strictly right you would prefer to have the 1980 frame because the 81/82 has extra frame rails underneath instead of a bash plate that would need chopping off. The only other difference on 81/82 is a extra muffler mounting hole. The Australian PE's have battery box brackets and a rectifier bracket. All which can be chopped off to turn a PE frame into a RS frame. You also have the bonus factor of being able to register it then ;) The PE frame is the same as the RS below. Note the difference on the left side compared to 79 RM. I believe this was only done like this to better accomodate the PE battery, otherwise they would have just used the RM frame. I will have a look for some of my aritcles specifically on the RS250T tonight.

That's great fellas, thanks!
The article I have clearly states that the forks are off PE250N and the frame is RM. But the part numbers don't lie!.  ;D
I think a little more research on my part may be in order.  :-\

Thanks for that link too, caps.

PE250N forks only show up suiting PE175C,N and PE250C,N and no RS'
I still reckon this would be a fun project just for the hell of it and like LWC82PE said....PE frame = rego

Yeah, I think it should be reasonably easy to achieve and a cheap Vinduro bike.

I've just been trawling the parts diagrams and the only exact match is the side covers which are PE250T.
Anyone fitted an RM tank and seat to a PE? How's it fit?
FWIW here's the '81 version.
