The pesky 'second muffler' has been a bit of a problem. The guts was gone out of the original one and they'd just shoved a piece of pipe deep into the muffler and it ended up waaaay down in the expansion chamber.

The hardest part was finding some good perforated pipe to go on the inside. I got some inch and a quarter perforated from a car muffler joint (which was the smallest I could find) but it was useless as it left little area for packing.
A very used H7 muffler which had been far-flung into the area of the shed where angels fear to tread was discovered and although the outside of the H7 muffler was knackered it produced a pristine core.

A few welsh plugs were placed on the ends and it's a loverly neat fit into the new section of pipe.

Sarsparillas all round..... :)

Here's the trick new bit.

Here's the evil old section

I don't know Ross, haven't seen it for a long time. It belonged to David Simpson from Stawell but if I remember correctly he told me someone in Bendigo had built it for him.

Stan.

That was one fast Monty..or was it Simmo ...or both. For a while there back in the early Viper days he and the Monty were top of the totem pole. The poor thing looks a tad overdone in a nineties sort of way. ;D

If my memory serves me correctly , Ron Dinsdale jumped on that bike as a bit of a guest legends appearance over 10 years ago at Newborough in Victoria .
He smoked the field like they were almost standing still ,,

Pete (Billet YZ) moved the shock mounts out for me and machined up some spacers that fit nice and snug into the Ohlins.
The guy is a wet dream for anyone restoring bikes and I doubt there's little that he can't make or repair. We're very lucky to have him down here.... ;)

Now that it's all painted up again only a trained Montesa eye would pick that the mounts are different. The stock pipe's back on and whilst there is the odd 'ding' here and there I'm pretty happy with it. It doesn't seem any quieter with that second muffler however ???

Its up here in Queensland. I can't remember who owns it. Obviously not doing any riding . I last saw it 3 or even 4 years ago at a bike workshop. Looked a bit rough too. I reckon I could find it if I looked hard enough.
