General Discussion / Re: Why is nothing easy?
« on: October 07, 2015, 10:43:27 am »
Further to my ongoing dispute with ebay over them refunding a buyers money & telling him to keep my item (value AU $665), ebay today sent me an invoice for the said amount & advised they would direct debit my linked account in the next few days. This is after countless "discussions" via email & telephone with them stating that I am not reimbursing them until my item is returned to me & in my possession as in effect ebay had now purchased my item & disposed of it how they saw fit. So I call the bank to cancel the automatic direct debit with ebay, only to be told by the girl on the end of the phone that I couldn't do that without authorisation from ebay, what the? I then explained that I was their customer, not ebay & that my request should be completed, she still said it couldn't be done. I then said, ok so I won't leave enough funds in the account & that she should ensure I don't get a dishonour fee when the direct debit is rejected. She said they couldn't guarantee that even though I was advising them of the situation in advance. So I reply, well if that's how it is, I'll see you in 10 minutes to close the account. She asked me to hold for a moment while she discussed it with her supervisor, only to return with, we'll be only too happy to cancel the direct debit with ebay, consider it done & it will take effect in the next day! Fu$k me, why did I have to go through all that BS in the first place? Why is nothing easy?
All that aside, no doubt my shit fight with ebay will continue..........

Don't get me started.....  selling overseas to someone who's first language isn't English....  They confirm the arrival of the part but that I am the devil because I have sent the wrong parts and they don't fit.  Er no they are the correct parts.  lots of threats, abuse etc from the buyer.  I am reported to ebay.  A 'case' is opened, all the money is taken whilst they investigate.   (Bearing in mind I have sold 100s of this component and it is correct....)  The buyer then says it is correct and +ve feedback left.  Ebay then close the case give him all his money back and allow him to keep the part then thank me for helping.  EH?  He has his money and my part.  Isnt that theft?!  Same again this week.  Part shipped to America at great expense.  Decides that it just isnt quite right for him, so opens a returns case.  I have to pay all the postage to get my part back (and there is nothing wrong with it, but he 'doesn't quite like it')  He gets all his money back, I foot the bill for the return postage.  How the hell is that fair.  Oh but if I don't agree to pay the return shipping he gets to keep the part...  You what?!  If it is no good why would he want to keep it (and get all his money back)  Surely this is theft?   Oh and I have to send him the money to cover the cost of him shipping it back!!!!  It's like someone walking into your shop.  Saying that looks nice.  Putting it under their coat and walking out with it in front of you (oh and then giving them some more money so they can get a taxi home!!!)  I am always careful when ever I sell things as there are now so many way to get shafted.  Instead of buyer beware now the seller has to be ultra cautious as well as you can get well and truly ripped off and there is absolutely bugger all that you can do about it.  Most people are good honest citizens but there are others that are complete players and will rip you off.  One nice thing though is that ebay always send you a lovely note thank you for helping them resolve the issue and ask you to complete a questionnaire (not that they will ever do anything about it as long as mugs like me keep paying to sell on their website....)  Ah the joys!

A friend has a ready to ride Cheney Yam for £6500 if that would fit the bill.  Personally I would love to own a KSI thumper.  They look magniifcent.  There is a nice 510 Husy twinshiock as well that is on offer for just shy of £5000.  (In the UK, so would need to be shipped)

very nice.  Being fussy, Ceriani fork seal covers on Marzocchi legs, dont work. I have the right covers and stainless clips to do that right.  if the owner is on here and wants some to finish the job of correctly, get in touch

Hi Marc, the poms have been buying these for their bikes and have found the welding to be at least as good as the original, but some of the tanks have been assymetrical so the top yoke hits the front of the tank on one side on full lock. Also the fuel fillers sometimes need adjustment with a file to make the cap fit, the tank badge holes can be out of (horizontal) line or too far apart, and the small threaded holes for the badges need tapping out as they are full of paint. Nevertheless they are well priced, well painted, and quickly delivered, and any complaints have been dealt with efficiently, sometimes resulting in a partial refund. Probably worth a go, especially on a pommy bike where anything you buy is just a starting point towards making it fit.  8)

so crap welding, poor fit, badges that are in the wrong place (didnt mention the filler caps that you cant use, mine didnt fit!) and partial refund.  Eh?  That's good?!  Surely the tank needs to fit, have quality welds, not hit anything etc etc is the bare minimum.  Not sure how  a partial refund makes up for a tank that cant be used?!  Ok some of it isnt bad.  Yes that video of that man painting the tank shows a highly skill craftsman.  if you accept that you will have to make it fit when you get it and they are your expectaions then so be it.

My main grip is that they have no back bone and dont understand the meaning of integrity.  I asked them to make a tank exclusively to my design.  It was all agreed and paid for.  Then delays, problems, excuses.  You name it.  Before I even got it they had advertised my tank on ebay!  And for less money than they charged me!!!!! Nice.  The arrangement was that they would make it to my design and only for me.  Ha.  Guess that was lost in translation.  When it came quality was poor, badges didnt fit, tapped hole for fuel tap was damaged and the filler cap didnt fit.  Paypal complaint and a full refund got their attention VERY quality.  My gripe was that when I placed the order it took so long to happen that if I hadn't complained I could end up with no tank and no protection.  They soon got it sent.

To be honest the warning signs were there from the start.  Vintage Indian Motorcycle and Vintage Harley parts being made for a exclusively for a chap in Holland, but if I wanted some then of course no problem.  How many sir?

I asked if they had any problems with parts every getting lost in the post.  A coupe of times was the answer. The man told me of original Brough Superior tanks and guards being 'lost' in the post!  (really ~ that is a shame)

...........

I am not racist, far from it, but when my Indian school mate warned me to not do it, I ignored him (and paid the price)  He said go careful for a few extra rupees he will chuck in his Granny.  And that isnt me saying that that was an Indian friend who is very proud to be Indian.

They have no comprehension of quality control.  Tread tread carefully.

Never the less as an emerging super power we will no doubt be seeing alot more from India.

C- so far and much improvement needed.

Tech Talk / Re: monoshock internal repair - not hard anodized 1983 YZ
« on: December 21, 2014, 01:53:52 am »
I think Alex wasmore  after professional advice , Nathan . Your method would suit more a shonky wheeler dealer .  ;D
My point was that some wear does not automatically mean that it has to go in the bin.
A shop like Teknik won't want to risk their reputation by doing a less than perfect job. I was pointing out that Teknik's idea of "knackered" may be overkill for his needs.

I used to know a bloke who rebuilt Mazda rotary engines for about a third of the cost of most other shops. His engines were just as reliable, and made just as much power.
The difference is that he understood what was a good used part and what was junk, whereas most other shops lacked that understanding and they would simply replace everything to cover their own arses... Didn't give the customer a better outcome, it just cost more.

Don't rise to it Nathan.  You advice is perfectly sound.  If you are an ex GP rider out win then go for it.  For Jo average who wants to have fun on a budget, what you have suggested is fine.    Why spend the money if you don't have to?

Of course a shop will go all out to do their best.  If they don't it always back fires on them when it doesn't live up to expectation and people start to moan, forgetting the customer just asked for and wanted (and could only afford) a quick cheap fix to have a play, so that was what he got and then he was disappointed that it wasn't polished up to look like and work like a new bespoke shock.

When you help people in this way it can go wrong, so why would a shop do this and risk their reputation?

If several low hour shocks are coming soon, then pull them apart, use the best parts and build a good unit.  Maybe you'll get lucky and find a good body.

That isn't shonky wheeler dealer, it's good common sense.

Never the less if that doesn't work either it is good to know that there are specialists on hand that can get you going in the right direction as well as the possibility of a NOS unit.

Sounds like all the bases are covered.

22 pounds?  Fair?  Bloody bargain I would say.  Can cost me that much to post within the UK, never mind to the other side of the planet.

Interparcel is a good search engine that will list all the options with named couriers.

Parcelforce is ok.  I have an account with them and the discount is pretty good, never the less I would still expect it to be 60 pounds + to post a set of forks to Oz.

Hope that helps....

CD goes further back to the BSA Comp Department.  Nothing to do with CCM.  So that fact it doesnt have CD in the number is nothing to worry about.

Early numbers are typically work bikes, but that isn't a given.  CCM still hold the records of who had what....

Not that it matters to me, it is way over my budget and I have a shed full of projects to finish without adding more.....

I have never seen a CCM works bike with just bore and stroke on it.....  but I guess they did what needed to be done to go racing on Sunday.

I would want to know who rode it where and when.

I wonder how genuine the bids are......

Oh and reserve not met..... gulp!

There has been a few parts go missing over the years and it will require all new plastics, seat, and electrics, a complete engine re-build with new bearings, bushes  & shims, re-build both wheels with new rims. If it was me i would bead blast the engine casings & the frame then get it  re-plated. All in all I would estimate and total cost of around £3.000 tops to put this bike back to concurs condition which will give it a potential price tag of £30K plus.

I have tears in my eyes.  £3k to restore it to concours.  Ha, dream on.   I only wish that were the case.  The motor can swallow that in the blink of an eye.   I doubt you could get it race ready for that.   £5k+ in the motor alone if you want a flyer and that is just on the motor.  Frame needs replating.  Clucking bell and that is also done in the £3k restoration????   This is 2014 not 1982!  A set of spokes is £90 now, plus builds, shoes, rims, tyres, sprocket, paint the hubs.  Kiss £1000 good buy to sort the wheels out.  Shocks  ~ gulp.... the list goes on.

If anyone can completely rebuilt a CCM to new concours condition, please contact me urgently.

I have a couple of concours works CCMs that I would sell for £30k a piece.  Form a que here.....
