General Discussion / Re: Rats and two stroke oils
« on: December 19, 2020, 08:21:35 pm »

Funny enough the rats in my shed go for the Rock Oil R 40, so I have now had to keep it in a metal cabinet.

Norton used the flanged alloy rims on the "Works" bikes during the 1930s. They painted them black to try and kid the opposition!

I had a look at what I have left of Trail and Track Magazines and have the following for 1987 #158 and #162 with the 1987 buyers guide, all the others are later covering 1989, 90 and 91.

                                                Best regards, Geoff.

Just had some CZ spare delivered from Gerard Copping in the UK last Friday, plus they came fairly quickly and although tracked my Postie leaves everything behind the garden wall! Top man who always looks after me.

Tech Talk / Re: Fuel Tanks Cracking
« on: January 14, 2020, 10:27:11 pm »

I have filled plastic fuel tanks that have been stood for many months with engine oil to the filler and left for another month. Emptied the oil out and filled up with pre-mix and up to now no problems.
I know if tanks are left empty for any length of time they do crack and usually along the fuel level in the tank.

There is a guy in the UK who specialises in SWM spares, called Martin Mathews [email protected]  He should be able to supply or point you in the right direction. He has a good name in the trade.

Hi Alex,

There is a guy in Forestfield  Toyhaul Co that does motorcycle deliveries that is quite reasonable, who could probably fit you in on one of his trips over East. He is called Scott tel 0421 235 180   Worth giving him a call.

                                                    Best regards, Geoff.

Hi Walter, Thinking back I had a 1973 Cheney B50 BSA with a blue anodized tank so it has probably been around for quite a while before Eric started to have his tanks done.

Great effort and good team work. I'm sure that all the competitors will understand and appreciate the amount of time and effort that you guys have put in over the weeks before the event. Which looks to me will be a Ripper!!

I have had the same problem with an Electrex World fitted to a Mk V11 Bultaco. You could not kick it fast enough to get it to fire, push it and off you would go. Turns out that the later ignition kits are supplied with two stators to solve the problem!

Hi Zane, I have just had a look at your digital readout and have looked on Ebay but cant seem to find it. Could you show the sellers details as I am interested in putting one on my old English Harrison lathe.

                                      Best regards,
                                                          Geoff.

Bike Transport / Re: UK to Oz
« on: October 30, 2018, 08:05:24 pm »

Hi Ralph,....As far as I can remember the import permit was $50.00. This allows one or more bikes to be brought in but you have to submit frame and engine numbers, I was also asked for value of the bike. The cost of shipping was 450.00 pounds sterling and then the shipping agent at Fremantle had to have his cut which was $250.00. Plus the GST and quarantine fees. I think the total worked out at around $14/$1500. which was back then the same cost as the bike that I had bought, so not cheap!

Hi Ralph,....I shipped an off road bike from the UK to Perth several years ago and found it quite easy although expensive. I had a friend in the UK dismantle the bike and send in a wooden box. Quarantine down here had to inspect it and they charge a start fee and then have an hourly charge if the bike needs cleaning or pressure washing. Obviously you will have to pay customs the GST and Port fees at Fremantle plus lots of minor charges. You then have the recent asbestos scare which has affected classic car importers and may cause you an expensive problem.
Lots of info on the Government web sites about permits for vehicle entry etc.

What are you looking for as there are a good selection of on and off road bikes over this side? Cheers Geoff.
