Out of curiosity what is considered to be a large collection of one brand of motorcycle ?

I ask this with no real understanding as to what is considered a large collection of one bike brand

In anticipation would thirty two Honda's ( all restored bar 4 ) be considered size able ?

An obsession become a real problem when everything needs to be done in a minimum of pairs or a full series.

Let me show you what I mean and how expensive it becomes

1. Collecting pairs like a pair of KX motocross bikes from same year ( still relatively cheap)

2. Collecting  every model since 1973 ie Honda's

3. Making sure everything you have collected is restored properly from ground up

4. Running a team of race bikes for yourself and or a  mate or two

Please say a prayer for me and my problem

General Discussion / Re: Knee Braces
« on: November 13, 2013, 01:44:04 pm »
It only - I sacrificed safety for comfort. I have been riding for 43 years and never got the time to go and get proper fitted braces.
Net result I have got plenty of time now - and still plenty of time on crutches..

My advice - get proper braces

Hi Mark

Could not agree with you more. Anyway on a very positive note my collection of bikes has grown significantly.

I recently purchased the bike that JM Bayle Honda CR 500 that he rode  at Farleigh.  Have a look at  Facebook page - Cape Town masters and VMX - also see my photos on my Facebook page gavin williams.

When l have time I will post a few pics. Dying to hear what you think of the white Rocket CR 250 1978 . I am hoping to Finnish a Honda CR 125 1979 before Christmas - what a beautiful bike

Greetings from South Africa

Let my recent experience be a lesson to all. I had Asterix braces which I found uncomfortable. So like an idiot I started using the Thor quasi brace but not a brace.

I hav just had a massive  fall. The Thor knee guards did not protect my knees at all. Net result I have destroyed my right knee. I tore off all my ligaments, broke my patella.

My regret I did not invest in another pair of good knee braces. Too busy  no I have plenty of time, a serious amount of pain and a very long haul back

Please learn from my stupidity

Gavin Williams

I will post the video link - I still get sore just watching it

General Discussion / Re: Farleigh Castle - idea for the future
« on: August 15, 2013, 05:01:46 am »
One of the challenges for anybody once removed from the UK and European continent is the logistics.

Given that South Africa and Australia are both competitive and compete regularly against each other- why dont we create a annual twin shock challenge between two nations that share similar challenges logistically   at Farleigh?

In stead of the Ashes maybe we can have a floating trophy - to be left in the care of the winning nation after Farleigh each year

Any interest?

Ok gents - is anybody from the OZ side of the pond going to Farleigh Castle ?  South African will have a team in the twin shock class

Tech Talk / Re: VMX Part Wish List - What do we need??????
« on: June 03, 2013, 04:08:40 am »
lovely, keep them parts coming.

Im looking for a part I could remake or modify to help everyone in the vmx scene.

Carl

Carl,
It would be quite a big project but if someone made a run of 1984 CR250RE waterpump housings out of alumnium i'm sure they could make a fortune

What do you think a billet housing would sell for??
I can get them made no probs but to just make one will cost too much.

Also if any one has a case I can borrow so it can get it modeled it would help save a bit as they are $250 + for a rooted one as I don't really want to pull mine apart

Please  count me in for at least two - [email protected]

Honda / Re: Actual White Mugens
« on: March 09, 2013, 02:54:13 pm »
I've seen several white (Frame, Tank and Plastics) on the net.

The ME250RZ's were red as were the ME125RA's.  Were the white bikes ever sold to the public?

I am currently building a white 78 CR 125 and 250 - here in South Africa I knew of a white 78 CR 125 and if memory serves me correctly I also remember seeing pictures of a white 250 . Almost  ready to assemble
