If that was on my bike I would do what it took to make it right.
A lot of effort and money goes into getting to a race.
I want no chance of a DNF because I didn't spent the time or a few dollars to fix my bike right.
Besides to me that looks like a problem waiting to happen

I've spent a lot of time checking rechecking again and again that it was 1.2 mm BTDC. This is the digital unit.PVL instructs to set the timing 1-1.1.2mm BTDC.
I was going crazy because I didn't see the other mark on the rotar at first and was setting the timing 180 degrees out. I felt so stupid when I realized my mistake. I thought for sure once I found my error that things were going to go smooth from there.
There isn't anything hard about itI and I'm still missing something

They sent me a resistor cap. I had to source a non resistor cap as I was using iridium resistor plugs. If your using resistor plugs, you will need to change the cap I think.

Thanks.I will try that
Sure would hate to give up on it after all the time I inveseted
Never mind the 500 dollars I could have used on other things

Yes I agree. It is strange. It has to have a reason. And I don't typically like to give in to a problem. That is why I asked here. I know there's a good group of hardcore vintage racers on this board.
Shouldn't the PVL cap suffice? I can't imagine them not using an adequate part
Maybe I'll try a Bosch plug first.
Thanks again

I would guess those clutch plates are shared across multiple bikes and years are available from Yamaha .

I appreciate everones help
I'm at a dead end. I've confirmed with Penton it's the correct stator. Even sent it back to have it tested. Correct IR plug. I just don't know. Its strange it won't idle with the PVL also. I really didn't expect to find an answer since I've checked everything there's to check. I was hoping I was missing something.
I'll install the stock ignition with my Black Ops ignition coil on the morning. I've have good results the the Black Ops Coil and it was bolt on with no headaches

I tried a new PVL ignition
It runs well, just won't start by the kicker
I have to bump start it which is unacceptable, the stock ignition lights the motor with one kick
I had Tom Morgan( who was Jeff Wards mechanic back in the day) port it and cut the head
Best running bike I've ever owned
I'm a 52 year old child that can't leave well enough alone.
Unless I can get it sorted in the next week I'll mount the stock ignition and call it a 500.00 loss. Unadilla Rewind is coming up and I need my bike 100%

Tech Talk / Re: Plastic restoring question
« on: March 29, 2017, 07:32:34 am »
For the final stage i put a regular metal buffing wheel that you would use in a bench grinder into a cordless drill. You can get creative with a bolt or find an arbor at a home improvenent store. I used a plastic polish only to keep the wheel cool but you just buff away at a slower speed. Too fast will melt the plastic. Now ive only done a Kawasaki and Honda tank, be sure you try a hidden location first. Because Ive never heard of a bike like yours.

That's a great looking Yamaha. We took a trip to Positano a few years ago. The road riding was unbelievable. I had more fun riding 2 up on a silly 150 scooter and half helmets than I ever did racing mx or off road. The roads were amazing. Never mind you have to ride wide open or cars will push you right off the road.

Poor old Ken needs to jump into the 21st century

Thats the only way to do it

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm really asking, Isn't there a reason cranks aren't made so a slip fit of a main bearing isn't possible?

Good for you. Im sure its been a long road. Its behind you and you can go back to living your life. I know 2 people that have had replacement surgies. Their only regret is they waited too long living in pain to have it done

I dont feel you need to practice restoring plastic. I had restored the tank on my 83A Kx125. At one point i had a green scuffed up lump of crap in front of me. I wondered what i had done and tbought i was going to have to find another. But I kept at it just stepping down on sand paper grits until the final stage of polishing it out with a wheel. The final result was a tank that looked new. Just keep the faith

Only the right side will work on the WR. The left plate is split on the WR because the filter is accessed from the side on those bikes
