Hard start PVL

I tried a new PVL ignition
It runs well, just won't start by the kicker
I have to bump start it which is unacceptable,the stock ignition lights the motor with one kick
I had Tom Morgan( who was Jeff Wards mechanic back in the day) port it and cut the head
Best running bike I've ever owned
I'm a 52 year old child that can't leave well enough alone.
Unless I can get it sorted in the next week I'll mount the stock ignition and call it a 500.00 loss. Unadilla Rewind is coming up and I need my bike 100%

Look up Maico PVL and you will see that PVL on Maico 490's make them harder to start than the standard Motoplat ignition. I have a brand new PVL ignition that did not work out on my Maico 490.

some PVL's don't trigger till a certain rpm and some kickers don't spin them quite fast enough....apparently..im putting my trust in a 1984/5 motoplat that so far seems fine

That is correct usually it is around the 300-350rpm mark that most ignitions start to fire and around 380-400 for aftermarket ignitions. A man kick is definantly needed to get them up around 380-400 rpm.

You can buy cheap optical tacho's , spin your engine over with a drill and check the rpm it fires at with the pvl then try the oem ignition and compare.

Weight the flywheel .

Not a good thing on a 125 Mick. Your 500 TT engines could spin a concrete aggi but a 125??? not so much

You have to make sure you have the correct combination of plug, cap and ignition. Your digital or analogue pvl will want a certain combination of resistor and non resistor plug and cap. I got an email back from Penton products saying I should use a Non resistor cap with my resistor plug on the digital pvl.  I think too much resistance such as a resistor plug and cap can give you a weak spark.

   You have possibly got the wrong  Stator coil.

   You have got one to suit a Gokart or Scooter with Electric start.

    These Coils have lees turns than one for a Engine with kick start.
     
    What are the numbers Stamped on the Stator Coil?.

I'm at a dead end. I've confirmed with Penton it's the correct stator. Even sent it back to have it tested. Correct IR plug. I just don't know. Its strange it won't idle with the PVL also. I really didn't expect to find an answer since I've checked everything there's to check. I was hoping I was missing something.
I'll install the stock ignition with my Black Ops ignition coil on the morning. I've have good results the the Black Ops Coil and it was bolt on with no headaches

       This is strange one .  Does it run clean when you ride it?.

        Both my Brothers Maicos, 250/400 MC 1974 1/2 GPs Run PVL.
         
        BOTH worked perfet STRAIGhT FROM THE BOX.

        Run NGK Resister Plug cap and Bosch W2 silver  plugs or NGK B95EX Irdium PLUGS.

        Both start easer .Run clean. And have better Throttle response.

Yes I agree. It is strange. It has to have a reason. And I don't typically like to give in to a problem. That is why I asked here. I know there's a good group of hardcore vintage racers on this board.
Shouldn't the PVL cap suffice? I can't imagine them not using an adequate part
Maybe I'll try a Bosch plug first.

They sent me a resistor cap. I had to source a non resistor cap as I was using iridium resistor plugs. If your using resistor plugs, you will need to change the cap I think.

Iriduim plugs, pvl ,ignition,pins,caps, lighting and timing.
Brings back lots of memories on shed time for our xl350.
