I remember the track up and down the side of the mountain an incredible track on the lines of echo valley but as I recall steeper very up and down I could be wrong but I think it was a round of the 250 championship.

Wanted / xl500s rear wheel
« on: November 07, 2013, 08:05:19 pm »
Hi all,
I am looking for a final drive flange for my xl500s. The part that mounts the sprocket and engages the cush drive rubbers on the rear hub.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, a complete rear wheel or the part itself has been very difficult to source plenty of wheels available os but shipping on a complete wheel is excessively priced for me.
Regards Rod.

The last time I was at Echo valley was in the mid to late 70's for the mountain man series and it was always a fantastic track for both spectators and riders I have some photo's from then but the quality is very poor I am sure anyone who rode this track would have had a ball.

I met a lovely Vietnamese family at this mornings dawn service. The granddaughter of the 80 odd year old dad of the family (who spoke little English) told me that he had insisted that his family attend every Anzac service since he'd been in Australia. She said that Grandad fought alongside Aussies against the Vietcong and felt that he "owed" it to his Aussie mates who died trying to unite his country. The old fellas 10 year old great grandson proudly wore all of his Vietnemese medals but Grand dad wore just two medals, one he's received from the Americans and the other from Australia. I would have loved to have known why he'd been honoured by three countries in the same war but I don't think the old bloke would have talked about it, even if he had posessed a better grasp of English. The pride on the old warriors face when a small group of Aussie Vietnam vets came up to shake his hand and give him a hug was priceless. His sons and grand daughters were all crying with pride...........and so was I.
+1 more

Well Put Firko ,
Not afraid to say it Made me tear up

This was my mate's 500 in about 1979 on the Gold Coast a beautiful thing to ride but the right hand gear change gave me a fright the first time I rode it went for a touch of brake just at a tight corner and went up a gear that was exciting lucky it handled so well managed to pull it round instead of wrestling with a post and rail fence. Sorry about the picture quality.

« on: February 09, 2013, 08:54:23 pm »
Hi all,
I still have and ride my 1981 xl500s. This bike lived outside for the first 20years of it's life ridden to work every day the out in the scrub on the weekend's,the most reliable bike ever rain , shine or cyclone start up first kick and run all day. It has had a few rebuilds over the year's and is now ridden 3-4 times a week in the forest around here whenever I can get an hour or few to spare. I would love to find my Ossa SDR that I bought new in 1973 on the Gold coast.

General Discussion / Re: So you need a new knee or hip?
« on: October 22, 2012, 10:45:51 pm »
Aint getting any younger I was on stall for 13 years to get my left knee replaced same story to young I was 40 when a total replacement was the only option. Glad I waited apparently the new knee is much better than the previous one as in the time frame of how long it will last. The old replacement I was told had a life expectancy of 15 years I was told if I got 10 I would be lucky being more active at 53 than at 65+ and being a big bastard, the knee I got now I was told would last for life being that there is a 10% fail rate every 10 years as in 10 years 90% would still be good 20years 80% would still be good ect, but you don't know what % you are in. Waiting to have the right knee done I am 55 now and have had the left   2 1/2 years ago. Right shoulder repaired twice now (10years ago and 1 year ago) and no good again now total replacement only option left , and the left shoulder is also stuffed. So now I just take bigger pain relief and ride 3-4 times a week but have to ride within my limit's, now day's I ride to not fall off hitting the ground is not a good option. But it put's a smile on my face and that's all that matter's.
Regards Rod.
