SEQ Track, what was it called?
« on: January 10, 2014, 07:22:53 am »
Do any old SEQ racers remember a track up near Maleny? I have a memory of riding my roadbike to an MX meeting pretty close to Maleny in around 1978. Not Conondale tho, this was the other side of town. Maybe it was a one-off in a paddock, or maybe I just mis-remember...

I remember the track up and down the side of the mountain an incredible track on the lines of echo valley but as I recall steeper very up and down I could be wrong but I think it was a round of the 250 championship.
Regards Rod.

There was a maleny track. Apparently as good if not better than Conondale according to those that rode it. Johnnyo knows it and rode it. Ktm47 would have too.

Yeah, that's what I recall - big track, hilly, all grass and just a brilliant looking place. No facilities tho...

That's right Graeme it was on a farm, they moved the cattle out on race day. Track was pretty much just pegged out the day before.

They must have run on ot in the eighties as well i remember going there you headed out of Maleny towards Conondale and turned right and the track was on the left pretty sure great track from memory i think either billybunter or Mick sheargold might have had a win the meeting i went to there. ill have a look through my old QMCN mags and see if i can find any info. the track might not of had a name i knew it only as Maleny.

The track at Maleny was run by the East Moreton M/C Club.  You turned right just after the pub in Maleny to get to it.  I also remember there being a very steep hill on the road to the track.  I'm not totally sure if I raced on it in 1974, but I do remember racing my 1975 RH Suzuki there in 1975 (of course).  I finished 3rd at the Qld 500 Championship there in 1976 on a RM 370 A.  Peter Boyle won with Gary Flood 2nd on a KTM.  I know there was a couple of 1 hour races there also.  I last race I remember there I was on a CR 250 in 1978.  I think the Club lost the use of the land around about that time. So the track probably went from 1975 to 1978.  The club more or less folded after they lost the track, but I know Rob Assink from Gaythorne Yamaha did kept it going for a few more years.  It was a great track, in my opinion the best track we have had in Qld, even better than Conondale and Echo Valley.

I've got photos of someone on an YZ400E and John Walmsley on his black RM370 racing at that track which I guess also says it was still in use in 1978
