Yamaha / 1990 yz 250 frame
« on: May 17, 2016, 04:29:16 am »
hi guys. Just a quick question that i figure here may be the best place to find an answer.
I have a 1990 yz250 and im after another frame. I built it from parts and the frame i have has numbers, and while it doesn't appear deliberately tampered with, two of the numbers are difficult to read and may not pass scrutineering. Just wondering which other years had the same frame to broaden my search.
Cheers ta

Suzuki / Pe250

Hi folks,
Ive just got myself a pe250. I know very little about them but i saw it cheap on ebay and a few click later i owned it.
From what i can work out its a 79n model ( frame 23273) So My question is this. How interchangeable are the parts with the later models? Or the 400s. Or even the rm of the same year. I pretty much just have the main frame and engine. Any advise would be great or a list of bits that would fit to help with the parts search would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Yamaha / 1970 yz / dt
« on: January 28, 2014, 12:29:38 am »
Hi. Can someone please tell if the frame of the dt and yz are the same from 1974? Im building up a yz 125 from parts but am yet to find a good frame. I have however found a dt frame of the same year about 50km away going cheap. While i would like the right frame eventually i would like to start putting it together so thought this might be a quick fix. Also are there any other parts that are interchangeable without affecting the power or handling?
Cheers

Yamaha / 2 quick questions
« on: October 03, 2012, 05:43:20 pm »
so having looked at a few different web sights im now confused. Is my 79 dt125 the same spec as the 77 78 model and if so can i ride it in pre 78. I know the yz got mono shock early but did the dt as well.

Also are the early 70s dt175s basically 125s with bigger barrel and head? or are they as least interchangable. Ive found a cheap 175 roller that i might buy if its do-able.
cheers

ok sounds good. i currently run a dt in evo which is obviously a bit down on power. i assume upgrades on this would be the same as a 74 bike? What parts should i look at replacing with yz bits? i assume head, barrel and expansion chamber form the same year bike?

Tech Talk / pre 75 options

so after an excellent weekend at harrisville i think im hooked. the only bad thing was i wasnt in enough races. well, that and the ones i was in i lost but no matter. So i figure i need to enter another class. and as i liked the look of the pre 75 125 i thought that might be the place to go. Problem is i know just about nothing about dirt bike of any generation never mind ones that are older than me. So the question is what kind of bikes are you guys running?
I do have a sl125 rolling frame in the garage waiting for me to do someting with it but havnt been able to trake down an engine. would a 100 bottom end fit a 125 barrel on? or a xl combination maybe? or am i better of finding a 2 stroke motor to put in and if so what from. Any tips or hints much appreciated.
Oh and this is going to be on a bit of a budget as most of my funds have to go on a pram and cot and such things.on the bright side in a few years i will have a side car companion as i quite liked the look of that too  ;D !!!

thanks guys. am starting to hate it a little. i think we need some time apart. good news is the timing is set and holds pressure in the crank so it looks like the only thing stopping it is my sore leg.maybe a few days apart to recoop will sort it. and maybe a big hill.

so i bought a yz490. i know, love them or hate them. well as seams a bit of a standard problem it wont start. piston was blown when i got it and has been rebored new piston and head mod done. compression is good, spark is bright, carb stripped and cleaned and set as manual specs but it still wont go. tried all the suggestions i can find so far from laying on its side, blowing into breather, rocking, sissy kicks etc. in fairness i dont weigh a great amount but it does turn over quite well with a good jump on the lever. any other suggestions and things to check or try that dont involve setting it alight or leaving it on kerbside would be greatly appreciated.cheers folks
