I seen the shift lever, I figured it and the tank if its alloy should cover the cost of the bike. Would you know the difference in the travel between a YZA and the MXB?

That would technically be better as I wanted a bike for pre 75 but I figured I could get away with it here in Canada as they just want to get more guys out. This is only the 2nd early monoshock I have seen in a few years on Kijiji.

I was told the serial number is "  the serial no on engine and frame is 509 000500  " and by the angle of the motor and the curve of the clutch cover made me believe it was a YZC, but now that I look at pics of the MXB it matches it and would make more sense.... I would think that makes it a bit easier for parts. And I guess no alloy tank  :(   The Serial number listing I was looking at was just for YZ's and the YZC starts with 509-100101

Thanks for the info!  :) :) :)

Plastics are XYZ and are very nice, and I have a set of gold rims on my YZIT but the back is quite faded so they haven't made it on my H.

Yamaha / Cabmkr's MX250B Project

Here is what I am starting with.

Looks like most of the important bits are there and it had new piston and rings in the 80's is what I was told. a retired fella has it so it sounds like he may be the first or 2nd owner. Her had it listed as a 74 but serial number is 509-00500. Bike is about 6.5 hours from me but me mum is picking it up which gets it about an hour and a half closer.

I haven't been here on a while and realised that there are no finished pics of my YZ. Well here you go!

I have taken it to the Ormstown Vintage Festival twice, fun fast bike!

Honda / 81 CR125 Shock Rebuild
« on: April 27, 2015, 11:46:57 am »
Does anyone have an assembly diagram for an 81 CR125 shock. It came to me disassembled and is a bit different then the Yamaha Monoshock's I have rebuilt. Mostly interested in the orientation of the seal head assembly. It was zip tied together.

Cheers, Chris

Should 81 Cr125 forks have bronze for bushings without any Teflon type coating. Putting new seals in a friends wife's CR and I always thought that they had Teflon in that era of bikes.

I pulled the 250 motor out of mine and put a IT465 motor in it .The 250 was a rocket and difficult to ride .Would be real quick with someone faster than me on it .I like the big flywheel torque of the 465 .

yzhilly, I just picked up a IT465 roller for the same reason, I am worried how peaky the 250 is as my 78 IT400 was easy to ride both on the track and the bush.

« on: April 09, 2014, 09:46:03 pm »
Does anyone know a suitable replacement Clutch Release Lever for an 89 KX250 as the std one is NLA

13102-1101 RELEASE-COMP-CLUTCH  is the std part

Doing some reference on the bearing it rides in I am thinking

13102-1110 RELEASE-COMP-CLUTCH  93 KX250

Or is there anything else?

General Discussion / Re: Another money grab from Ebay.

I thought Gumtree was Owned by the same Mob that own Ebay

Over on this side of the pond they own Kijiji which is like your Gumtree.

Also E bay are making harder for us people with fewer listings (shipping policys buy a number, etc) and I have held off on buying things that have "import" charges on the site as these should get paid when the postie drops them off.  I try my best not to buy much off e-bay and use it as a last resort.

Ebay and its policies/costs are beginning to become the polar opposite of what it once was for Australian retailers, which is a GOOD thing. Prices are going skywards on ebay as sellers continue to raise their prices to keep up with ever increasing sellers fees. Many items can now be bought cheaper in store (bike shops in our case) and slowly the astute buying public are cottoning on to this.

This is good for the local shops for sure. Half of the stuff on there can usually be sourced locally. When my father in law was restoring his TT500 he comes to me to give me money to buy chain and sprockets off of ebay, I  told him he was nuts as all this is in the catalogue at the bike shop. People just don' get it and all we need to do is a bit of research. I deal as much as I can at my small local shop and I get first dibs on any bikes that get left there  ;D

Kawasaki / 1982 KX250 Info
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:48:26 am »
I have a fella offering an 82 KX250 on part trade for the 89 KX 250 I picked up. Although the 89 is cool, in the end when its all said and done I would be putting anther $1500 or so in parts into it. So if I can pick up the 82 which being air cooled fits in better into my collection and the extra cash he puts in will help my other projects along.
As I don't know a lot about the Kawi's of that era looking for input...I have to admit I think the number plates on the rear fender are quite cool.

Cheers, Chris

Tech Talk / Re: Throttles
« on: March 23, 2014, 05:44:52 am »
Rummaged through my spares and found a throttle from what I believe to be from an 84 YZ125, throttle tube is broke and the cap missing but I have the housing and after going through the cables at the local shop I deal at, found an 84 YZ125 cable from motion pro that fits perfect! On the bike now and all works. I will order a new tube and cover and will be good to go!

Cheers
