Courtesy Monster Energy Kawasaki: Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto will not defend his AMA Motocross title in 2012 after injuring his knee at the Seattle supercross on Saturday night. The two-time AMA Supercross and defending AMA Motocross champion will undergo surgery on his knee this week.

 >:(  Another one bites the dust......

That's another year wasted and he's already 27.. not a lot of time left at the top level and getting harder to pick up a good ride.
You'd have to ask why was he pushing so hard at a race where he won't be in the hunt for the title and a week before going to the US for one of the best opportunities of his career??

I guess when your a "racer" cold hard logic does not get a look in sometimes Johnny....  ;)

Townley injury update - off the bike for at least four months
Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing's Ben Townley is recovering at Brisbane Private Hospital following successful surgery on a femoral head-associated acetabular rim fracture, sustained during a fall at Round 2 of the Monster Energy MX Nationals at Coonabarabran on the weekend.

The 27-year-old was air-lifted to Armadale on Saturday after crashing heavily in practice. A CT Scan revealed a dislocated hip and broken bone and the former World Motocross Champion was transferred to Brisbane Private under the care of Dr Lawrie Malisano.

Speaking after the operation, Dr Lawrie Malisano said Townley could be back on the bike within four months.

"The surgery was successful," Dr Malisano explained. "Ben had a femoral head associated acetabular rim fracture, which required open reduction and internal fixation with lag screws and a bone anchor.

"Ben is likely to make a full recovery; his fitness and health will contribute to his recovery. The best case scenario will see him racing within four months.

"We will keep a close eye on his recovery and aide where we can," Dr Malisano concluded.

As Townley recovers in hospital he is also coming to grips with the realities of what has just happened.

"I can't believe I am laying here in hospital," Townley said. "I am supposed to be packing for America.

"I am fit and was looking forward to racing in either America or Australia. It's not fun lying here I had really given everything and felt that I was the best prepared I had ever been this year.

"It is so hard to believe, but I have to accept it and focus on my recovery," Townley continued.

In acknowledging and extending his appreciation for the remarkable work of Racesafe director Simon Maas, Brendon Kiley of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Dr Lawrie Malisano, Townley said couldn't thank them enough.

"I am overwhelmed by the extraordinary lengths of these men. I have been treated like an athlete and the respect they have shown me will never be forgotten. My family and I can't thank them enough".

Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing's team owner Yarrive Konsky understands all too well that injuries can rob champions of championships.

"It's quite amazing that the American injury list right now reads a who's who of the top twenty racers in America with upwards of 15 of them sidelined," said Konsky.

"We all accept that racing is dangerous and it hits hard when one of your riders is injured like this."

General Manager of Honda Motorcycles Tony Hinton is committed to Ben's recovery and looks forward to his return.

"We see this happen in motorsport too often and we accept that it can happen to anyone," Hinton said. "Right now our focus is to make sure Ben is comfortable and he has everything he needs to make a full recovery."

Fans are encouraged to send support messages to Ben@hondamx.com.au or to Brisbane Private Hospital Wickham Terrace where Townley is expected to remain for up to five days before returning home to New Zealand.

Quote from Dirt Action today on Facebook

"Given the news that Ben Townley may have dislocated his hip today at Coonabarabran, here's a bit of recovery info on that particular injury from Medsacpe.com to give you an idea on what this could mean for Ben ...
"The athlete should advance his or her rehabilitation regimen over time as tolerated, with light jogging by 6-8 weeks post injury, and regain full function in high-performance athletes by 3-4 months post injury."
Obviously, 3 to 4 months is no good for Ben given the AMA Motocross season starts on May 19. Let's hope the injury turns out to be less than speculated and he can get back on it in no time."

General Discussion / Re: Club numbers
« on: April 14, 2012, 03:31:30 PM »
If you get a senior nationals licence you can request a number from MA or your state body that you can use and nominate on your sub-regs on your entry. Normally this will sort out most problems with numbering.

Other wise keep a supply of white insulation tape handy. You will normally be able to get away with No: 1, 11, 111 at most meetings.

Graeme
My guard has the same profile as yours by the sounds of it, being slack I just bolted it on with the four fixing points on the frame; it looks and works fine.
So the short answer is I don't know why it has that profile either, I thought it may be a bit of a hybrid design to suit a PE as well??

Certainly a lengthy description... doesn't leave much to the imagination.

7,875 words to be exact, I would not be calling him unless he paid for the phone call if his breif description of the bike was any indication... ;D

BTW I cut and pasted his comments into a text editor then into Word to get the word count, certainly did not count them although I did have enough interest to see how much time this guy had on his hands....
