I used to use the AXO Pentagon (External) armour back in the 90s. You could add bits & chop & change the style of armour you were using.Proobably one of the few things I replaced with the same product when it was time to replace. Wish someone made something similar nowdays.

I put a set of USD forks on my '88 YZ250. I spent a lot of tome prepping them (pulled the shim stack out & resurfaced the pistons as they looked looked like they had worked properly since new. I put genuine KYB rebuild kit through them & they were so much better than stock conventionals it wasnt funny. I do admit that I like to jump the thing, so USD resist flex better, but they were still quite plush on the VMX natural terrain.
I guess different people have different needs, but I was stoked with my result.
Hope this helps.

I will check the needle tonight...We have beautiful colour on the plug & its going hard.  The rider is quite fit & we done tons of laps on sunday. Oh yeah, it is a original carb, but bored out to 39mm.
Im supprised that the chamber volume is too small...I actually thought it was quite open.
Thats why I am looking for advice, so your input is appreciated.
You got a head floatin round?

We had to machine the head...it has already been done & was actually crooked on the cylinder across the piston by .5mm!
With the machine work done, we have 1.2mm squish which is heaps for one of these old girls. Running on 100 octane leaded fuel, Q2needle (from memory) 380 main 70 pilot.
The cylinder head looks like it has been through a engine failure, with lots of scarring, plus detonation damage to boot.
I am majorly concerned at the ignition as well, but want to replace the head to eliminate it from my list...

We have an ugly detonation issue & its a process of elimination...The cylinder head is R.S anyway. The cylinder is a 3R4.
Im not sure if the ignition is the correct one because they all look the same so im working on part numbers at the moment.
We have almost eliminated the deto by fully retarding the ignition, but this can create more dramas too.
The bike is running really well now & we could probably leave it alone, but im a picky bastard & no motor should be running full retarded.
Any input is appreciated. I have mainly worked on the newer stuff & dont know many of the tricks to get the old girls runnin better.

Hey brad, what was that little blue bike you were getting around on? The exhaust had an unusual aroma about it...

Would I be out on my own if I mentioned Silkolene Comp2 Plus?
U can get it at most Supercheap Autos & I swear by it...Ran it for Years when I raced the Shell Series & never had a issue.
I remember running TTS & the first time I used it I had a failure! Lots of people swear by TTS so maybe I did something wrong at the time, but it left me with a bad taste & a rebuild.
