Title: Millfarm Scramble - Wandering WA
Post by: VMX247 on June 11, 2009, 10:30:04 pm
The Millfarm Scramble is on 29th & 30th August in downtown Wandering - just one & half hours south of Perth. This is the VMX club of WA's big event on the calendar.
pre' 75 this also includes sidecars.
Entries now on vmxwa website 8)

The track is laid out once a year at the Ferguson family's Mill Farm through gently undulating paddocks, flush with bright green grass clinging to a loamy top soil. Perfect roost country.

There is no charge for spectator entry as it is just a club run. If you want a map to the track just go to our website at www.vmxwa.com and go to tracks section. Racing will start as soon as the fog lifts but there will be plenty to see prior to the start. Bring your camera and snap some of the best pre '75 machinery on show. There will be a canteen on site (selling food at 70's prices) as well as toilets. So you'll be able to watch some good vintage racing, have a feed, a drink and then relieve yourself before the cruise home.

See you there!

If you need assistance with accommodation, get in touch with myself or Alison (VMX247) and we'll see what assistance club members can give.

Go on do it, you know you want to.  Over 125 pre75 vintage solos and sidecars last year!!!!  It's one of those weekends to remember.

We held an Elsinore only race at Amaroo Park back in '89 '90 open to both 125 and 250 and it was won by Renee Hunter on a 125 ahead of some fast boys on 250s. Unless you ever saw this little girl race, you wouldn't believe how fast she was.

Hey Mates.

Have a great event and hopefully it will go off a bit easier this year since I won't be there to get hauled off in the meat wagon.
Hope to be back next year for the Nats.
Take care.

OK so lets get this straight.  We in the West will gaurantee an Elsinor will win a race at Wandering.  Now that will be something worth seeing!!!!   You know that is a seldom seen occurrence

So far I reckon we'll have 10 sidecars runnning, which if it was like last year will be absolute mayhem.  Alison will confirm or deny

Over 55 come wearing your war paint.  We had Bill davis racing from the US of A last yr but found the competition a bit hot (sorry Bill only joking).  And the comment was "it's only for sheep stations".  Well 27 riders lined up for that event and what a great time was had.

So come on give it a go, we won't mention the bonfire and roast Saturday night!!!  you guys especially in SA, just down the road

The things I like about a rebuild are the personalities and the time that have gone into breathing life back into a bike................. :-*

Well Nats are over and the black Ducks are on the way home, praying they get their bikes back in time for the mills farm Scramble on the 30th.   125 Riders last year, was brilliant.  This year the rumour is 12 sidecars, might just park the bike and watch the nutter's go at it.

Come over you guys you'll enjoy it

Hear there are going to be a fair few Elsinors being brought out of the sheds.

Might hang around afterwards, see if there is an Elsinor Swapmeet!!!

Will they take a late entry in the sidecars, I've got a slightly used Yamaha Wasp, only rolled twice at the Nats. Ridden by a very black duck and a dying fly on the side. Have pictures of it in motion-to prove it does move and can pay officials off if they let us in. Don't have a sheep station to give as bond but could put up a very quiet exhaust shop back east if they must have collateral. (I lost the sheep station at the Nats)
Will it be as good as Proserpine, with a 12hr drive each way?

Next year it will be even bigger as it is the 15th anniversary of the club, they intend getting a few riders( from South Africa (5), England and the eastern states.  Will be a two race meeting with one at Wandering and a fortnight later at the home track of Narrogin.  So guys put West Australia on your calendar for August next year.  this could be the biggest international VMX meeting to date.

Last year we had Falta and Staric from Checoslavakia and Bill Davis from USA as well as Drakie and others from Eastern States.  Next year could be massive, things will not be done by halves for next years celebrations

Legend has landed on our shores..
Vic Allan MBE (Scotland)
Born in 1945 in Garlogie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Vic started Riding at 10yrs old on 1916 Levis two stroke and won his first race at 14yrs old.  Vic was a regular competitor from 1961 onwards riding Trials, Grass Track, Scrambling and Road Racing.

In 1965 Vic won his first of two 250 & 500c.c. Scottish Championships riding a Dot and an ex Bill Gwynne Matchless Metisse and rode his first ever GP at Glastonbury in Somerset riding a 250c.c. Dot, and the following year competed in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Northern England winning regularly.

Riding his first International event in 1967 Switzerland resulting in his first win abroad and competing in the ITV World of Sport and BBC Grandstand Series with a little help from Greeves.

Vic became a regular competitor in British Championship races after becoming a full works rider for Greeves and later swapping to BSA, Bultaco, British CCM, Husqvarna and KTMs, and Winter of 1969 was spent competing in the Trans Am Series in America, testing the new Greeves Griffin and riding against all the World Champions.

In 1974 Vic became the first person to win both the 250 and the 500c.c. British Championships,  then in 1976 after changing to a British CCM machine he achieved his 2nd British Championship.  1979 however became the year of Vic’s retirement from professional riding.  He changed to the Austrian made KTM’s finishing in the top ten after an early accident.  Finally representing Great Britain in the Moto-cross and Trophy des Nations, a great way to finish a career as a professional Moto-cross rider.

In the late 80’s Vic started classic road racing doing short circuit and the Manx GP in the Isle of Man. At 43 years old Vic won the very first British Four Stroke Championship on a KTM clinching the Championship at the last round, a hip replacement in 1990 curtailed the off road riding, but 1998 saw Vic and his brother Robbie start racing a Yamaha R6 in the UK Endurance Road Race Championship Series and the 600c.c. championship in 2002.

He has since been  training off road riders for over thirty eight years, and for over twenty four years has run Projects for Councils working with Young Offenders and people at risk, putting off road bikes to good use, and in 2004 earned an MBE for twenty three years work with Young Offenders in Camden.
