What's a facebook ?
Tim its one of many internet places that you can put your mug on, meet folks from around the world and chat some more, and some even find a wife/husband/sister/cousin/cat/dog etc :D, sometimes them selves ;) :o
technological computer stuff.

Hmmm and advertise what ever stupidity you want. Me I just go for a walk in this country town and chat to the neighbours ,or drop in here with a lot of friends with something in common. Besides who wants to look at my face...................................... :D
-
18 months later, Tim and myself along with thousands of others are now hooked on FACEBOOK ;D
Such a cheap fast easy way to communicate.
I have met a few oldschool riders and their off-spring,who seem to have taken up there fathers go get em racing attitudes and travel the world.....really is amazing this internet invention.Just do the search and its right in front of you. :o
another facebook group ;) ;D

Our age isn't too bad, its some of the young girls & boys especially--I throw a comment into their conversation and that usually pull's em up like a broken cam chain in 3rd ;) :D ;)
They forget where they are ! :o
They must think there's that old bitch auntie again >:( -- :D
cheers Alison

Face book .....not for this little black duck . I'm with you Bill on this one- way too much imfo available at the touch of a button.
-
Not if you make it all up :)
-
Why can`t the trials meetings be like their meeting out here, in stead of big rock hopping, if trials here in Victoria was like the olds, l would buy a bike and get involve.
-
Dave, get out to a local meeting and have a look rather than assuming the riding will be too hard. Not all the sections are killers and if you ride Clubman the lines are tame. No-one expects learners to tackle anything intimidating. There are plenty of trials people around Geelong if you want to get involved.

I was signed onto facebook by a junior family member but have never felt the need to use it. I just don't understand why people have to blabber every little facet of their dreary lives ("Had dinner with Reggie today, a yummy Vegemite sandwich and a diet Coke then went home and had a poo") and expect us to be interested. Every other day I get an email telling me that some half forgotten dork from my past wants to be my facebook friend. No thanks.
This forum is the only cyber community that I'm involved with and that's all I want thanks very much. Maybe I'm a product of my generation but I just don't understand why people feel the need to continually vent their spleen to the world.
Some people really need to get out a bit more.

Twitter, Facebook, Deadhead........It's not as expensive as cocain but it sure leaves the serius user with that same dull, glaced-over eye look..... :(
-
Amen, brother ! (That's twice we've agreed in one day, Firko !) ;)
Get off your keyboards and get outside !! ::)

Don't underestimate the power of Face book, its great when you have employees. So is Myspy... I mean Myspace. When your staff call in sick with a bad flu, you can log in and see the comments from their friends "How are you feeling? You were so drunk last night when we left you hanging onto the bar". Or the "My job/boss sucks".
Also great if you need to know what your teenage kids are up to. As firko said, you know the last time they farted.
-
hear, hear Firko - I am on basically because I gave way to peer (aka wife) pressure but have been on probably twice in the last 2 months - cant be bothered and was thinking of deleting my "profile"

I rest my case your honour ::)

Same with phone conversation taps too-Mad Max hit the ground runnin :-X :-X

-
Firko, you probably don't want to hear it ::) but I agree with you wholeheartedly. :D
I dabbled a little with FaceBook and My Space thinking it was a way to keep up with my children and nieces and nephews etc. I concluded it was too much like hard work and too trivial - minimal return for effort.
I use emails and CC's to keep up with my family and extended family and use it specifically as required - works well, both to and from. And I use forums. That is more than enough time spent for me.
Basically there is just too much information out there - I've got to manage it and make choices.
-
Mike52 has the right idea, alias's are a must in cyber world. it is true some employers do check up on staff and so do the undesirable element of society looking to make your loss their gain ie some of the threads on this site have us talking about our collections and when we will be away at meetings etc etc. Now imagine if we did not have alias's and our info was out there we would be ripe for the picking. Most of us know who we are talking to so there is no need to let the world know who we really are. its not their business its private. that's my 2c worth having said that each to there own :P
-
I agree with what the majority of you out there think. I got on facebook after being told by the 'younger set' that I should. The next day I looked at it there was this message telling me that these two hot chicks wanted to be my friends. I immediately said to myself 'self i've put down that I'm 72 and married with six grand kids and here's two hot babes after me, what IS this shit?' Then started to notice all this weird fighting and arguing amongst family and their friends so talked to myself again and said 'I'm outa here and deleted my face book connection which by the way they make hard to do. cheers pancho

MOTORCROSS ???

MOTORCROSS
Well spotted ::).

Im with Alison, FB is great for a laugh, following your interests [eg. Marc Marques], there are some great groups posting endless photos [eg. HQ owners, Vintage factory, SA motocross past and present] The options are endless. Firko might not want to friend a half forgotten dork, you choose you friends. Getting back in touch with some old school friends can be fun also.
I do agree those that treat it like a diary need to get a life but you can just lay shit on them the same way you do here.
You can message someone just like a email or text that is only seen by the person your messaging
Like anything, use it to your advantage, the world can be in your pocket.
-
I guess it is all how you use it - pretty much like anything in life.
I find farcebook good for catching up with people I raced against Stateside that use it but don't hang around forums. With a little tuning you can get it to only show what you want to see .... hell, you can always ignore TMBILL if you see him there 8)
There are some decent groups/pages around that are very interesting to an old curmudgeon like me.

And for fun notice the names that some have come up with!
SH*7 face
Faceache,
Farcebook etc.
cheers pancho.
