what do the american forum members think on there candiates ,this is what one off my friends in the usa said today
Hey Paul!
Going to vote for McCain. Obama is tool liberal and I am telling you God help us if he gets in. We will be heading down the road socialism. Let me tell you I think he is as close to a communist as anyone. It is getting to a point that there is no where to run. I am very afraid for this country if Obama gets in along with the rest of the world.

What's so frightening about this post is "Steves" total ignorance of what socialism or what a communist is. I know we've covered this to the end in another thread but I'm still blown away by the political naivity shown by many Americans.
Barack Obama is as much a socialist as Sarah Palin is an intellectual.
I'm having a hard time understanding why so many Americans are so afraid of Socialism anyway. Capitalism hasn't done them any favours recently.
Obama in a landslide.
-
i think it goes further than that firko, it actually scares me how little many americans know of pretty much anything outside their own back yard. it's not necessarily their fault either, world news is a little on the thin side over there.
-
NIMMO for me ::)
-
yep gator, ross in a landslide
-
I think its just that they(USA) are afraid of the cost of renaming and repainting the White House, the simple things really. ;D
-
I pity the USA given the choice they have been offered.
Its vote for more of the same or a totally unknown black fella with Moslem ties. I am basing my opinion on the news reports we get here. Probably a lot more issues then just those. Glad I don't have to choose between those two clowns.
-
I have lots of family in the midwest of the US, and you must understand they are a very conservative people. Great folk, give you the shirt off their back if you needed it ( a lot like Queenslanders ).
No matter what the polls say, if McCain can convince some of the normally non-voters into the booths, and the Clinton supporters decide not to vote because she is not running, that conservatism will make it a very close thing.

Do I give a flying Firk ....not at all, same old shit different Jocky. Ruled by the WAR LORDS

I agree Mike, the people of middle America are unbelievably conservative and deadly afraid of anything that they don't understand. Unfortunately the education system and the media have failed in informing them of different political beliefs and systems which leaves them with a distrust of radical change. The message that the 'American way is the only way' is hammered into them from day one and many truly believe that their system is the only democracy in the world. The misconception that Obama is a moslem and therefore dangerous and not to be trusted is one of those scare mongering techniques that hones in on that ignorance and has been used by the religious right to great effect. Of course I'm generalising and there is a good number of Americans who are well informed and open to different political philosophy but they are a minority if you take the news reports on Fox News as an indication of what the nation thinks.
I have strong ties to the US and count a number of Americans among my best mates. Based on what I've observed and from what my friends believe, I think that Barack Obama is exactly what America needs right now. After 8 years of possibly the worst world leader since......since the beginning of time, America desperately needs a change in direction. Conservative politics and fiscal policy got them (and us) into the mess we're in now so perhaps a more radical approach to rebuilding America is now needed. I think Obama will draw many black voters who previously figured that voting wasn't going to make any difference to their lives. It'll also bring back many democrats who hadn't bothered to vote in previous elections. Of course there will be the Southern conservative element who will vote for McCain to prevent a "nigger" from being elected as president. To them that is a fate beyond tragedy.
I reckon America is ready for a change after the disaster ridden 8 years of Bush so I think Obama will romp in but not as strongly as the polls say.

Holy Shit Quicky! Where in hell did you get the Moslem ties to Obama? Fox forking news?? Thats the most ludicrous and redneck racist statement I've heard for ages. Obama is no moslem, his name is African, not islamic. And even if he was a moslem, what does it matter? Do you asume that every moslem is a terrorist? Give us a break ::)
As I said in my post and if you bothered to read it you of noticed, what I said was. "I am basing my opinion on the news reports we get here" . Thats 10 News to be exact. Obama did his primary school years in Indonesia in a moslem only school. Thats what 10 news reported.
Me a Racist. ;D a redneck. 8) 8). anti moslem. :) If you say so. :-*

For all concerned it's "MUSLIM" and Obama's middle name is Hussein which is the arab equivalent to SMITH.
Whether Americans vote for "Kill'em All" M'Cain or
"Yes, I was raised a muslim till my father abandoned me" Obama
They will shoot themselves in the foot, it's just the choice of left or right that they must decide.

A little history lesson for all of the misguided liberals who think conservatives are the cause of the financial mess!
The roots of today's mortgage-based financial crisis can be traced back to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which Jimmy Carter (head tool) signed in 1977. Seeking to address complaints from anti-poverty activists and housing advocates about banks allegedly discriminating against minority borrowers and "redlining" inner-city neighborhoods, the CRA decreed that banks had "an affirmative obligation" to meet the credit needs of victims of discrimination in borrowing.
To add a government stick to the process, the CRA decreed that federal banking regulators would consider how well banks were doing in meeting the goal of more multiculturalism in loaning when considering requests by banks to open new branches or to merge.
A good "CRA rating" was earned by way of increasing loans in poor neighborhoods. Conversely, lenders with low ratings could be fined.
The Fed warned banks that failure to comply with government guidelines regarding the delivery of "equal credit" could subject them to "civil liability for actual or punitive damages in individual or class actions, with liability for punitive damages being as much as $10,000 in individual actions and the lesser of $500,000 or 1 percent of the creditor's net worth in class actions.
This well-intentioned in terms of delivering "economic justice," this push for more government-directed social engineering produced a widespread weakening of long-established industry standards for credit worthiness.
Led by Congressional Democrats, this policy of replacing private and decentralized decision-making with a system of centrally-delivered rewards and punishments was basically a one-party effort. Republicans, it seems, were more aware of the unintended consequences that flow from government interference in the market.
Over the past 30 years, Democrats, along with a handful of Republicans, have demonized lenders as racist and passed regulation after regulation pressuring them to make more loans to unqualified borrowers in the name of diversity. The march toward the eventual financial meltdown picked up speed during the Clinton administration via an increased lowering of loan standards in order to expand minority borrowing.
By intervening, even just threatening to intervene in the CRA review process, left-wing nonprofit groups have been able to gain control over pools of bank capital, which they in turn parcel out to individual low-income mortgage seekers, The radical group called ACORN had a $760 million commitment from The Bank of New York!
What makes this even more disgusting is that we are about to turn the government over to the people who were responsible for this fiasco to begin with. The voters seem hell bent on rewarding Democrats as better able to manage the economy.

Cappra your glossing over some important facts, the completely unregulated hedge funds/merchant banks basicaly bought and onsold that 'Fanny Mae' style housing loan risk from the banks. You also are quick to forget that hedge funds made massive profits went bust and swiftly left the goverment/taxpayer to bail them out. There in is the real problem a totaly unregulated for profit organisation deems it quite OK that the public purse underwrite them. Not only that you have a 'walk away' law that allows loan defaulters to hand in keys without any form of financial punishment. If the Fed and the Goverment couldn't forsee this crisis and chose to ignore warnings they don't deserve to govern.

Thanks to most TV being American shows these days, i no longer watch TV,,,,Americans could not care less about anything over there big fence that go's right around there country unless there is money in it for them,,,and as they like to say,,,,I'm over it.
-
I wouldn't want to vote for either of them. I think the whole US election circus is an indictment of the low ebb in America's political process and America's fortunes.
Leaving party policies and ideologies aside, the best hope lies with Obama simply because he is not a proven moron. Obama lacks substance and is more a product of PR spin, hype and hope rather than experience. It remains to be seen if he has the character and leadership required to resist entrenched self interest groups and lobbies and chooses a wise and sometimes unpopular path for America, as surely it will be.
I see some good signs in his character, the fact that he is half white and half black, the fact that he is half Christian and half Muslim, the fact that he is American with a strong outside influence on his World View, are all positives. The fact that he is the consummate Politian prepared to take any popular policy, to make any political astute allegiance, is a concern.
If Obama doesn't win you can expect crys of 'foul' and civil unrest -bigtime. Good luck America.

Was it ever in doubt?
Question is how long till the gloss rubs off and the reality sinks in - he's not the Messiah hes just the mortal who has inherited the biggest mess in on the planet to let hope he is a "connected" guy.

Yes, it is over no matter which side you were on. So, we will see what his administration can get done. Don't think he is the Messiah, or a terrorist myself. The US voters have spoken though-so let's see what he can do. That's all you can really say.

211 kawa
I wouldn't say its the biggest mess on the planet compared to some of the African Countries, its only cause it gets back closer to home that it affects us,,,,but hey we are still involved /riden /fixen and playing with bikes so its gonna be OK, ;D what more could ya want... :o don't answer that ;D
-
Ok election is over- lets talk about bikes again ;D

In social terms a very historic day. If it leads to the policy changes that are needed remains to be seen. Even with the best policies, political will and interlect in the world there will still be very powerful forces resisting change and acting against Obama. I hope Obama lives up to and exceeds the hype. Good luck America, or, as the locals would say, God bless America ;D.
-
Yawn just another politician ::)
-
I don't want to say this but I'm going to anyway Obama is a sitting duck for any crazy at the momment I hope he stays safe long enough to make the changes needed. jimson
-
Been thinking something similar jimson. Thing on the telly last night made a joke about how all of the previous American presidents were old white blokes - except JFK who was a young white bloke.
And we know what happened to him...
Listening to the radio this arvo, I think that one reason the Yanks are so happy with Obama is because he promises change: Bush's path was clearly a very bad one and at least they've now got someone trying to steer the ship away from the rocks.
-
For the last 20 years security has been exceptional around any American President or President Elect. I don't think anything will be different or harder.
If the FBI, or whoever, have kept Bush safe from the Talaban, Bin Laden etc., I think they have a fair chance of keeping Obama safe.
Pray that they do. I would hate to think of the consequences and the conspiracy theories that would result ::).
-
funny thing yanks ,a mate of mine is married to one so off course we had to give her a hard time -you know watch out for drop bears, huntsmen spiders, attack kangaroos, etc biggest one tho was we told yanks where insulated dickheads with a bigger one in charge of the f**king nukes!! she would go yeh yeh no we are not, well she went back to the us for 6 mths came back here and her 1st words to me apart from here your bourbon was oh my god you are right and the world finishes 25 miles off shore
