Post by: Graeme M on April 30, 2014, 07:09:29 pm
This sticky thread is for discussion about the 2014 DT Classic titles. This event will be promoted by the ACT MCC at the Fairbairn track near Canberra on the weekend of September 27/28.

Haven't heard any more at this stage... I'll see if I can find out how things are progressing and report back here.

Update: Just checked in, still waiting on MA to approve the regs. Will let you all know what's the go once I hear the regs are out.

Although the regs aren't out yet, we do know that the ACTMCC is definitely holding this event on the weekend of 27/28 September. This is the Classic DT Championship, run for bikes made before 1978.

I have to say too that the track is as good as it's ever been these days, the guys doing track prep keep it in tip top shape. Went to a practice day on Sunday and had a ball. If you want to try the track out for yourself, there will be a club day on 3 August.

I've created a Facebook group for this event here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/267347503471657/

This is not an official ACTMCC page, rather it's meant for all riders/pitcrew/spectators and anyone else interested. I'll post up what info and so on I can find, and feel free to post your own photos or ideas here. Note though, it's meant as a way to publicise the event and reach people who might not otherwise know about it. The group is NOT the place to complain or criticise any aspect of the event, this is meant to be a fun and positive way to promote the 2014 Classic Dirt Track Championships.

Supp Regs are not yet approved, however I can offer the following info about classes.

Classes will be as per the MoMS for Classic Dirt Track. Which is all the classes from Pre 60 to Pre 78 plus age classes in Pre 75. Support will be Pre 85 125, 250 and 263-Over, as well as Pre 85 125cc Juniors 13-u16yrs.

I am told there are still problems getting the supp regs cleared through MA. However it is hoped these will be sorted in the next few days so hopefully we might see them within the week. The club is very keen and pushing ahead with preparation for a big weekend. Dont forget there is a DT club day at Fairbairn Park Sunday 3 August for anyone wanting to come along and get some track time.

Here's a great deal for anyone travelling to Canberra for the Classic Dirt Track Championships and looking for accommodation.

The Golden Age Motor Inn in Queanbeyan will offer a discount rate if you tell them you are coming for the race and mention the ACTMCC. You can even namedrop if need be, just tell 'em Darylene Austin sent you!  :)

You can ring them on 02 62971122, website is http://www.goldenage.net.au

Might need to book soon though as I hear they are expecting plenty of visitors with a few other things on in the region that weekend, including Floriade.

Yeah Grant, the build up for this one has been underwhelming to say the least, hopefully when the reg's are out it picks up.

I can't comment on the ACTMCC's approach to promotion/publicity, but rest assurred they are keen to run this event and are looking forward to it. Our track guy, Fred Senger, is a very committed dirt track/classic dirt track sort of character and I think the track itself will be very good. I've ridden there a lot lately and it's always in top condition.

The delay with the regs is unfortunate and as far as I can tell it is not the ACTMCC's fault, but I can't say for certain where the issues lie. I am told that this week will see serious efforts to get all the sticking points sorted and the regs approved.

If anyone is wavering, I can understand it. Once the regs are out, I think we can all accept it's a definite goer.  So, fingers crossed there is news within the next several days or so.

I haven't read the whole thread but is this title just for pre 78 bikes and what is the track surface?

Yes it is, Pre 78 only with I think Evo support.  This is the 2014 Australian Classic Dirt Track Championships.

The track is decomposed granite, I think about 650 metres long but don't quote me on that. It's on a slight incline - the start gate is on the flat, run about 100 metres into a long uphill left hand sweeper, then another 100m or so of straight to a sharp left hander which leads into a fast downhill right hand kink before carving left back into the uphill sweeper.  The uphill sweeper and the fast right hand kink are great fun. It's a fastish, fun and safe track.

Just a reminder to anyone nearby to Canberra who's thinking of racing the Classic titles, the ACTMCC has a club day on this weekend so you can come on over for a bit of track time. Pre 78 250 and Open, plus Pre 85 250 and Open, and of course Over 35s and All Powers.  Sign on from 7.00 AM and you can join the club/enter on the day.

Forecast is good right now, sunny and max of around 13. The track is in great condition lately too, last couple of practice days it's been brilliant.

its a deco surface John - one of the best tracks around with perhaps the best left in DT I have ever ridden - big call but true. Its a trials rear MX front set up for me with Maryborough gearing. Its also the full pre 78 card.

So where it says in part 24. Tyres "No knobbies allowed" does this mean only on the rear or is this Temora all over again?
Title: Re: 2014 Classic Dirt Track Championships for Pre 78

I think that's just the 'standard' wording people use on supp regs and it means no knobby rear tyres.

Anyone wishing to buy a hoodie please note that the prices have been listed incorrectly. At section 5 of the supp regs the price of a hoodie is correctly shown as $55, however on the entry form it is listed as $25. The correct price is $55.

I've just been informed that the ACTMCC and MA have received a few enquiries about classes for Pre 75. As I understand it, the supp regs specify age racing for Pre 75, however a number of people have asked if there will also be 'open' classes for Pre 75. That is, as well as the age classes, there will also be an age open class for the three capacities. The ACTMCC have sought clarification from MA, but it seems likely that approval will be given to add these classes.

This means that in addition to your age class, you can enter the same bike in the same capacity class in an 'all ages' class. For example, a 45 year old with a 1974 CR125 can enter the Pre 75 125 class in both 40-49 years and 'open' classes.

If approval is given, hopefully on Monday, an amended entry form will be issued. Note that to enter the extra class will cost an additional $25. You can send in an entry using the current entry form and add the extra class (together with the correct entry fees), however I'd suggest waiting till the amendment is confirmed.

Enquiries can be directed to Darylene Austin on 0402854414 (between 4:00pm and 8:00pm)

Spoke with Darylene last night.

It looks like Pre '75 All ages will be added to the program in each capacity which is great.

You only have a few weeks to enter so it's time to get your entries in!!!

Cheers

Historically entries come in late, hopefully this year will be the same.
Wash your mouth out Dave, we need to keep DT completely separate from the MX pedants that make a mountain out of a molehill like on several of our other topics. ;)

I would say a lot of people are like us , we have a pre75 and 2 evo's .Not going all the way there for a 125 and age class ride ,if there was no split would have entered 8 classes .

I agree, hasn't been the same since the split, also the current economic climate doesn't help but if you could get a fair choice of classes, may of got few more interested punters.

Very disappointing for the Canberra club, thought DT was starting to get some momentum, saying that though I didn't enter due to only 1 pre 78 bike and the number of classes (1) couldn't be justified. :-\

Don't blame the split, it is not mandatory. It has proven a success for CMX, however if a club hosting CDT considers they can run Pre60 through Pre90 they can apply to do so.

Wake up Col ,Dirt Track will never get the numbers that CMX get so get off that topic .Dirt Track needs its rules looked at , to many age groups ect .

Agreed Col, ACT have a watered track and would really struggle to get through all classes in two days. Do MA still expect double the permit fee if a club applies to hold a combined event.
The hosting club has a responsibility to give competitors a decent amount of rides, imagine the furore if that didn't happen.
I feel sorry for the club and people involved.

Yep, Mick but imagine the difference if the Evo and Pre '85s had been allowed to run as Championship classes, as was done at Temora last year, I know there was some drama getting it done that way this year, I'm still pissed off the way it's turned out, but never mind, next year I will be 70 so if the planets align for me, I'm gunna have a skid in the Super Seniors.
