Title: Black Duck Vinduro
Post by: Drakie on May 07, 2008, 10:46:28 pm
Hey guys, sorry I won't be at Rockley but you just had to put it on my kids 21st! However, following the success of our first vintage enduro at Castella, Victoria last year; another event has been added to the calendar in Victoria for 2008.
On 27th July at Campbelltown; a dot on the Vicroads country directory map 59, A5 – south west of Castlemaine; will host our first event for the season. The aim of these events is to simply bring to light and use old dirt bikes that aren’t catered for in Vintage motocross, in a non-competitive event. The Black Duck Vinduro is for pre ’70, ’75, ’80 and ’85 trail and enduro motorcycles and will be run on private property so there is no need for bike registration. However, a well-muffled exhaust is mandatory as are head and taillights(…even if they don’t work). While the above classes have been listed there is no strict eligibility scrutineering and you can ride with your friends on the same minute (3 per minute) if you enter together. The course will consist of a 30-minute flowing loop through bush with rocky to loamy soil and is 16.7 ks long. All gears will be used with fast and slow sections and the bush is open enough to let faster riders to pass without trouble. Built into the $55 entry fee is an MA recreation permit but if riders have a full MA licence it costs $15 less. This is not a race as once riders have been started in their minute order they can choose to start their subsequent laps at any time they wish. Have a cup of tea, a chat, tighten that chain, etc. Riders will be simply marked in and out of the loops so we know where you are and keep a tab on how many laps you’ve done. Riders will have to wear all the usual protective gear but period riding gear is encouraged.
Camping at the venue on Saturday night is encouraged (accommodation is scarce and we are promoting a feel-good vibe) with a meal available at 5pm from Bronies Culinary Delights for $12 and then off to the local Black Duck pub for drinks, lies and videos. Entrants and friends will be welcomed back to the venue with a roaring campfire, more tall tales and hopefully some sleep.
Sunday, breakfast is at 7.30, riders briefing at 8.30 am, the first riders away at 9. Do as many laps as you feel like and prize giving will be at 3pm. We have been magnificently supported in the past by Rider’s Edge, BTX, Stackers and others. All in all, a fun day is guaranteed. Entry forms are available online at eatmydirt.com.au, classicscramble.org.au and ma.org.au (by next week, we're a bit slow getting the official stuff up) I know it's a fair trip for you northeners but this is the closest to free love on a motorcycle I've felt in a long time! Any other inquiries ring me on 0409960618.  Drakie.

Hmmm.... don't think I can wrangle a leave pass so soon after The New Arrival's ..erm... arrival.

Bugger.

If it's half as good as the last one, everyone will be wandering around with big dopey grins for ages afterward.

Just don't tell me about it....  :)/ >:(

You guys are a scream!  I look forward to re-aquainting with you loons. Now, out to the shed; pump those tyres up a bit more (...the odd rock, you know), sit on your beast and waggle the bars rapidly left and right (...to exercise those unused muscles for the tight stuff); now pucker-up like a road racer sucking the bike to you (...for those fast bits) and that'll do for body prep. Now give your ride some TLC, cheers, Drakie.

Good turn out. Top area. Pity the rain kept everything greasy! >:(. See if you can work out who the Forum member is in the first pic that missed the right turn and ended up in the dam!

That would be that Dam Hilly bloke  ;D

Just finished washing 3 very muddy bikes! Great 16klm loop, technical enough to keep you on your toes but nothing too difficult. The rain maid things very interesting in places. The whole loop was a hoot but the back section was grouse, fast & flowing. Haven't had as much fun on a motorcycle for a long time. Managed to get 4 laps in before the cracked ribs were asking me to call it a day. I for one will be at the next one for sure. Well done to the organisers for a geat day at a great venue.
Cheers,
K

It was actually a Maico that went into the dam, easy mistake though as only the handlebars were visible.
I just missed out videoing him going in, bugger, its so hard to be in the wrong place at the right time.
No one swam in to help him, it was too bloody cold, so they just threw him a rope to tow him out.
If I can get a still from the video I will put it up but someone probably has a photo of it as camera's came from everywhere.
Looked like a good event & course, disappointed I didn't have a bike ready.

I dont get you blokes. The organisers of this event have got a lot to answer for. For starters;
- The sub zero temperatures that we had to endure Saturday Night,
- The rain,
- The mud,
- The amount of money that dissapeared out of our wallets at the Black Duck pub,
- The mud,
- The headaches on Sunday morning,
- The embarressing bloody cold start rule (did i mention the sub zero temperatures),
- The mud
- The bloke that dropped his guts and cleared out riders briefing,
- Letting people ride that would move aside when you came up on them (whats going on there!)
- The mud
- Putting the bikes in a Parke Ferme so that we can see all the bikes in one place at one time. Ya reckon they could have come up with something better than the French word, Parke Ferme. I was told by some of the die hards that it is "In the Spirit", god forbid, what will they come up with next, noise testing!!!
- $3.00 bacon & egg sandwiches for brekky that you couldnt jump over.
- A spit roast that would have put any pub dinner to shame,
- The mud,
- A 30 minute loop that went up hills, down hills, through bar width hand cut, flowing 4th gear roll on sections, special test sections including one that went up a dried-up 3mt deep creek bed. Jesus, i even cracked a sweat and a smile.
- Making us go on a road trip with the boys.
- Did i mention the mud.

As they made a complete cock up of this event, i suggest that all the people that did not attend and had the idea of going to the next event, dont bother. On your behalf I have decided that i will go to the next event and see if this was a one-off mistake and report back. We dont need to many riders coming to the next event and being dissapointed like i was.

Hah Drakie told me on saturday that i should go for a walk and check out the   special test i told him that i was up for it and wouldnt bother . Guess who was waiting at the dropoff the next morning with his camera and laughing hysterically at all the gumbys like me. I hope that there is some photo's out there . I was going to take some but just didnt get around to it . And the bloke at the briefing who let rip was lucky he wasnt closer to the fire.

Does anyone know approximately how many riders there were on Sunday?

At a guess, 60 riders/bikes then add another 30 or so support people.

I have a concrete floor in the wash bay covered in mud from 3 bikes, you want some more Hilly? I broke the nipple off the front brake cable after clipping a tree on my third loop. Sore ribs, the rain and dropping into the creek with no front brakes was a challenge, but hell fun. My two mates are about the same speed as me and it really was just a 64 klm race for us. My mate tried to fill me in in the creek, but because the mud was like porridge, the bike drove instead of spinning. Lucky for me as I was gone otherwise. I can't wait for the next one. I don't suppose anyone who was there found a Husqvarna kick start lever lying around. It was conspicuous by it's absence at the end of four loops!
Cheers,
K

The Utube is enough (more would be welcomed).

It looks like its a classic and well worth the trip down to Mexico 8). Maybe next year ::) (petrol prices, world recession allowing and SWMO agreeing ::)).
