Title: 250 H
Post by: crankpin on December 12, 2011, 02:47:18 am
Just got this lovely low hour bike in a PX deal.

Has anyone got an original boost bottle for sale?

On a Sunday? Fek off...

Nice... does it have the G model tank which is a bit smaller?

Not sure, I have nothing to compare, only memories.

All I know is, I haven't seen one as standard as this for a long, long time.

I remember staring through the window at Peter Brennans in Manchester when I must have been about 13 years old and drooling over the Yamaha's  8)

Although I've had a couple over the years, none have been as standard as this one  :o

That looks pretty complete and genuine. Amazing it doesn't have the boost bottle ??? It was the first thing I took off my H when I got it. Maybe they do something (the b/bottle) but they seem to go just as well without 'em.
I put a G tank on mine as well as the G swingarm and I'm just waiting on Walter to get this new shock done.

Bloody fast bikes..... ;)

Yes, although I prefer them in white.

I'm doubtful I'd notice any deference (boost bottle), bit of a numb lump. But it's the only part missing from the otherwise standard bike.

Why a G swingarm? I understand the tank swap, the G is a little smaller. Would a IT175 swing arm fit? I've noticed they're straight.

Didn't the H model have the twin leading shoe front??

250 h had (has) a single leading shoe although most ones you see racing have the twin. Mine has a twin which I haven't used yet, however the single seemed ok.

I put the g swingarm on as it's a little shorter than the h and will turn on a dime.

As for the avatar, well.......

Nice pick up dude.  As far as boost bottle goes they come up on Ebay now and then.  Have you tried the usual NOS suppliers ?

Have you got the manifold with the boost tube port ??  You'll need the tube and the spring that goes over it to protect it from melting on the head.

The tank should have a rebate with two ferrules for the mounting screws if its an H tank.

Bike in transit at the moment, so I can't even take a photo for you  :-\

Not to worry, I'll keep my eyes peeled on Evilbay.

I'll take some better images later in the week.

The boost bottle bracket which is attached to the under side of the fuel tank looks like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1982-YAMAHA-IT250-250-J-BOOST-BOTTLE-MOUNT-465-YZ-/280693439888?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415aa1fd90

I may have to make my own boost bottle, don't want to buy the wrong one.

No worries.  I have an old banged up one that I could measure the volume of, but won't have access to it until mid Jan.  The volume is the only critical element from what I can work out.  Different volumes for different capacities.

I'm likin' the Coke bottle idea  ;D the volume might not be correct though.

I'll knock up a trick looking aluminium one. Once I find the volume that is. It'll go with the opaque side panels I've just ordered  8)

although there is a little one , the upgrade for a classic roast dinner through the drive through at red rooster i think its around 375/385ml you would be overdoing it with the 600ml, but it might be alright for desert racing  :o

ahhhhh remember the go ol days sunday arvo driving home from the races in the ute with the bikes on the back nursing bruises and bumps , a bottle of coke and a coupla no doze or sinutabs , what driver reviver, another bottle of coke and maybe some chicken legs   yeeeeahhh

The description there is a little confusing  ::) ;D

If it's for the 490 it will be the larger size which aint right.  Hard to tell by the picture as they are both the same shape from memory  :-\

Should look like this.  I think the ebay one looks more like the 490.

Nice... does it have the G model tank which is a bit smaller?

The yellow US YZ250H model came standard with a 'G size' tank. It was the white Euro model that came with the larger tank! Also the first of the twin leading 'famous' Yamaha twin leading front brake plate, came on the 1980 YZ465G. The 1982 YZ250J was the first 250cc to come with it stock.

I was talking about the tank sticker in the tread above, the bike with the red seat & the sticker around the wrong way! It has a good sticker without the perforations! Just wondering where he got those?

I have those in stock.

They don't stay on like the perforated ones though (which I can also supply). But still last longer than the originals.

I noted the comment there about lasting longer than the orginals - mine are the orginals and have not come off...they are wearing tho'......they seem to have some sort of fine aluminium foil backing????

see it at this link http://ausvmx.ning.com/photo/2010-12-yamaha-yz250h-1981for-2/prev?context=user (http://ausvmx.ning.com/photo/2010-12-yamaha-yz250h-1981for-2/prev?context=user)
