dam
-
Might have to get out the 250 and 465 H's
-
Why dam Odd1, is there no lake? Hang on this is Tassie-no DAM.
-
No! No Pre 90
-
It doesn't say that-it says pre85 and pre90 open class evo-that sounds like you.
It will be good to see the last of the big baggers racing the first of the moderns again-just like it was in the day.
If the track is as good as they say-big and open it will suit both styles.
Wally will be able to grab his title back------ if he can find a local passenger.......
-
No it says pre 85 for sure doesn't mention pre 90. The statement you are quoting is refering too solo's as I read it!
-
mate-they are Tasmanians-wouldn't know a Wasp from a Wombat so just turn up and grease the scrutineers palm-she'll be right digger!!!
-
Will Evo be age grouped 30-39; 40-49 etc depending on entry numbers? If numbers allow will age grouping apply in Classes. eg. Evo 125. 40-49yrs.etc
-
excuse me eml yes we do wombats dont fly ;D
-
suzuki27, We will defiantly running all age groups 30 to 40,40 to 50 etc We will be if entry are enough be running 125,250 and open age groups races. I would like to run timed races also rather then laps but that will be up for discussion.
cheers
Fatboy
-
Flying wombats-we'll have to watch out for them.....
Whatsitcost for the ferry???
-
Thanks for that Fatboy.

Wasp sorry mate the only other way is with tolls ship not much cheaper . Iain
-
How are you supposed to get there without it costing a fortune? If it is going to cost $3400 for car and trailer, that will count a lot of people out including myself.
-
Hi Walter,
Sadly with your big rig set up the cost will be expensive I will talk with a mate today who knows a lot about the toll ship which leaves Port Melbourne the same as the spirit but comes in to Burnie instead of Devonport We have sent vehicles on the toll boat about six times and every time it has been about half the cost.
The cheapest way is to put your bikes on the back of a ute and put them on the spirit $79 each way for the vehicle and about $200 for a cabin.
Costs us about $1000 every time we want to go race on the mainland last year I went 4 times. I know your pain I wish the goverment would help out with the transport cost
Cheers
Fatboy
-
Dont bother with a trailer if you can get out of it put the bikes on a ute or in the back of a van,
$79.00 for vehicle and $99.00 for a cruise seat that is $178.00 each way I would of thought that was reasonable cost. Being in August it is off peak so it will be reasonably cheap. I spent $800 on fuel to get to SA and home with out the ferry cost. So please dont discount coming because of the ferry cost, book early and I will let everyone know when the specials are on. Sometimes the specials are cheaper then flying.
Get 20 guys together and put your bikes in a shipping container Launceston to Brisbane $3000 Launceston to Melbourne $1500 works out to be about $200 each to Brisbane and less then $100 to Melbourne If I can help in storing your bikes let me know. If you only have one bike I can get it over the water by removalists for about $200
cheers

Part of the VMX experience is camping in trailer at the track. Bike security is another issue, as having bikes stolen before, I am not going to travel from NSW with the bikes sitting in the back of my ute. This is the first post classic nationals that will want a good roll up of riders and we have the first one in Tasmania. Almost assuring numbers will be down. I have just priced the ferry at $1600, this is on top of all other costs associated with getting there.
-
Hope the split works ,as alot of people including myself will not be able to afford to do both.Being from Melbourne it will cost plenty, comming from Qld will cost a fortune. Here we go again another 12 months overtime.
-
You actually can claim some racing expenses back through tax if you are a business and claim it as advertising your business.
-
Head, I am certainly hearing you, It costs to get over that water but I think if we are serious about this split than we will go to where ever the Nationals are held. The riders from Tassie know all about costs to race I personally have spent 10s of thousands racing on the mainland in the past years I havent missed a nats since 93 and I will continue to go to were the racing is.Nats,HBBB CD's etc
PS Tasmania was the only application to hold the post classic nats so if you are not happy with the venue then you should ask your club to host the event next Year and I would be more than happy to come and have a race.
PPS You will love the track, venue and surroundings I promise

Hi Guys,
The Supp Regs are finished for the upcoming Post Classic Nats We are just waiting for the naming rights sponsor. We have two major players interested. Hopefully will have them to MA in the next week or so. The track is unreal we raced at the weekend and everyone had a great time. We took delivery last week of a new toilet block for the pit area which will include showers as well. Will be fully opperational by August making camping at the track even better then it is now. We now have three blocks of toilets, 4 showers and even a washing machine. We also have a great canteen and a new scoring tower. We will be supplying fire wood for a couple of fire places for campers and will be having full security so your bikes and gear will be able to be left at the track safely.
If you miss this event you will be definitly disapointed as it is shaping up to be a orsome event.
Any questions please ask.

Hi Fatboy,
Have you got any photos of the track and the surroundings you can post? It would be good to see a few to get a feel for the place. I'd also be interested in a track map if you have one, and I think others would as well.
Cheers

I wish the goverment would help out with the transport cost
It's probably worth a phone call or two, in 2010 involvement with the ASBK took me all over the country and i do recall there was a Tas Government backed travell subsidy. I belive the idea was/is to bring people (competitors) to Major Events in Tassy, I have absolutley no idea whether this was a deal that the promotor struck with the Government or if it is a "normal thing". I do not know what the department was called . . Regional Development or some such.
Not a shit load of help but worth a phone call or two.

Thanks KJ,
The track is 95% clay with about 5% course quartz Sand .Took those picks on the weekend was a bit overcast and rainy at times. Had an old mate drop in a long long way from home for a sticky at the track and a chat, one of our super seniors Col Metcher just in Tassie to see his grand Kids so he says I think he still takes his racing very seriously and wanted to check out his race lines. :D Any way nice to see him. I am still looking for the track map to post up so hopefully in the near future

It looks fast and flowing Fatboy and a lot of fun to ride. I like the look of some of those berms, they look like you could really get it cranking through the corners. Really looking forward to this one, it will be the road trip of the year!

This Tas mania you speak of-----is there any antidote?

I thought race gates were all supposed to fall at the same time!!! MMMM - that's the only reason you beat me to the corner FB!! ;D

Also I think Col Metcher is coming but unsure on his bikes either
Make the effort you wont be disappointed

Guys,
You can send your bikes in advance we have warehouse storage just 9 kms from the track as well as storage at the track in our shipping containers or even my place I have enough room for 10 or so.
I can pick bikes from removalists, couriers etc nothing is too hard
Cheers

Track looks great :)
-
just a dumb question has anyone come up with the idea of you getting your bikes to a central area or willing comrade in melbourne and sticking say 3 in a ute of or stuff a heap them into a van and do a few trips to the secure area at the track and then do it in reverse a good job for an enterprising vmx'r , there must be enought contacts in this forum to have a pool of willing helpers and they get to see the racing and hang with the guys in the process and get to ride the high seas a few times in the week , ahhh me arties , ;)
-
Any Queenslanders making the trip? If so any room for a bike or three? If I can get bikes there and fly down I will make the effort.
Brad, I'm booked to go with the ute and the two bikes and all the other crap I'm taking down, you know, like the fan!! ;D so i will not have room for a bike although I would be happy to take my trailer down (that I was not taking) if you wanted to pay for the extra to get it over the creek on the boat. Give me a call if you think the proposal has legs..
Cheers SLAWESY

Thanks for the offer Scott. I will be in contact. :)

Nice one ray.. get your bikes down there.. fun track,,, fast 125 will maybe match big bore lap times... no long open sections.. dunno what happens when they rip it... spose it ruts up a bit & gets grippy... fast as U want but safe & gentle if you packed your boobs ;) top forum for race action.. see the whole track as a spectator .. no robbie .. you have to open your eyes... see?? double fist from me .. and from him ... Thats not a 2 headed joke.. 'm sorry daddy.. :-[
-
broadford is our gp track and you can have have trouble passing on that... what do U expect wasp ??? its easy to pass on this track if your better than the bloke in front... your just not tapped in 5th anywhere.... don't be all... 'they said it was Gaildorf'... read the literature
-
very easy track to pas on everybody have no trouble passing me
-
Very good DTTas, I know the feeling.....
-
I had a sneak prac on 500 2 stroke & got good play from the monster but recon I could have been rounding myself on 125..... 125's is what I do but. locals wil be the threat.. go easy robbie 'dicky' knee....
...plenty of width for your outfit wasp.... big berms outside... great surface for most conditions. smooth down rampy jumps with a wide open step uppy... way do-able on anything evo plus.... I'd have a crack on 74 elsi 125 but you may wanna walk before you launch wasp. . Whopping airy finishline tale top . I prcticed waving .... almost looped out.. nailed it good alot though... good times... can see all the track as a spectator.. mostly .. any blind spots dont last for long

IMPORTANT NEWS
Please we need to know how many of you guys are going to enter as the entry is very poor at the moment and my committee is very nervous whether the event will go on I have convinced them that the entrys will start rolling in soon.
So please if you intend to enter please let me know so I can carm the nerves of our club
Cheers

-
Shane,my plan is to drive down with 4 bikes so three rockstars can fly in, giving four entries.Havnt been able to pull it all together yet.
-
I was really looking forward to the first post classic Nats. The cost of getting there though is just too much for me. I think a lot of people are in the same boat (bad pun).......
-
Maybe we should hire a crappy boat and sail across. When we land we'll say we are asylum seekers and get pocket money and free board! Then go racing on the weekend!
But seriously I'm out as I just don't have the( read any ) funds. :'(

Why don't the Qld contingent organise a shipping container similar to what the Westralians did for the pre 78's?
-
I'm about 80% sure that I'll enter, Shane. Two bikes at least, maybe three.
Uncertainty relates whether my wallet and I survive July.
If a mate's promise (threat?) of cheap trailer transport comes good, then I reckon I can rope in at least one extra entry.
-
Thanks guys for your answers and please dont panic the event will be going ahead we just need those guys who are going to enter to please do so or let me know so we can start orginizing the event proper.
But unforgently the ususal problem will be leave the entry to the last minute. (I have been guilty of this myself)
Please let me know your intentions and thanks to those who have emailed or phoned

hi last nite on our facebook page we had a grand total of 7 yes only SEVEN very poor
Wow, that's pretty piss poor........Where are all of the Viper and HEAVEN faithful?
-
Lots a people are doing it tough and hanging onto there money this year firko with the way the economy is going.
I wont be doing the post nats cause i cant afford it plus i did the classics the other month.
Would be an awesome event to race in i just hope it all goes ahead without any dramas...
-
While I fully understand that times are really tough right now, seven entries is still a pretty poor roll up. As much as I respect the Tassie club and their enthusiasm in putting on the event, for the first time out under the new Nationals split format situating the meeting in a more user friendly location might have been a more sensible decision. The costs of the ferry journey and the long road distance from the strong Queensland and NSW Evo and Pre85 entrant pool really work against the Tasmania location.
If I'd been making the decision on where the meeting should be held I'd have opted for a mainland east coast location where you'd be guaranteed a strong roll up. I'd have been making sure that the first stand alone Post Classic Nats had as much potential support as it could muster, if only to prove the split concept works. The 160+ entries for the Classic Nats in Queensland showed that punters will most definitely travel to an event as long as it's not too difficult or draining on the wallet. Unfortunately that damned ferry makes Tassie a poor location choice for that reason.
Another reason for the lack of entries may be the close date proximity to CD9. CD9 is now a 'must do' on the VMX calendar and, as Andrew rightly pointed out, racers have only so much finance to travel to events, CD9 might be the more popular choice. It's easily accessed central location also makes it more attractive for the cash strapped punter.
-
But did anyone other than Tas put up there hand to do the post Nats ?
-
But did anyone other than Tas put up there hand to do the post Nats ?
I'm pretty sure that's a no.
-
But did anyone other than Tas put up there hand to do the post Nats ?
I'm pretty sure that's a no.
That being so, it's a sad reflection on clubs confidence in 'having a go'. I fully understand that the Nats isn't a cheap event to promote so perhaps the pre 90/Evo oriented clubs that one would think are capable of running it, HEAVEN and VIPER were frightened off by those costs. However if a small club in Tasmania can raise the funds and have confidence in running it, one would think the bigger mainland clubs could easily pull it off.
Just my 2 bobs worth ;)
-
Tas has managed in 2003 and 2008 and now in 12 not bloody bad for a very small club . As an ex member of Heaven my hats off to the Tas scramble club .
please remember that we have to take that ship over to all the other events , HBBB , CD , NATS . Iain
-
I think having the Nats a week after the QVMX Maxima Oils Connondale Classic makes it very difficult for alot
of people from Queensland to make the trip to Tassie as this years Connondale Classic is going to be huge
and they won't want to miss it.
-
Yes Pete, without taking away from the "modern Nats", the Conondale Classic this year is going to be a ripper, we have a "Pro Class' this year for the first time for the fast old fools...just to wet your appetite, hows this for a race/races....Shane King....Dave Armstrong...Brad (who) Van Barello...John Kittle...Geoff Ballard...Steve Freyberg...Gary Armstrong...Simin Broad...Kirk Hutton....Shaun Reed...Noel Harker...Andrew Bailey...Darren Smart...4 fast Kiwi's and about another 15 or so riders I'll name in the next week or two....all in the same class riding up to 1990 model bikes.....it will be the classiest VMX race ever held in OZ....watch this space.
-
when was the date released for the Connondale Classic or is it the same time every year. The aust chamionship date for was posted here on Oct/19/ 2011 at the start of this post, yes i have travelled to connondale for the titles just for a ride at the back cheers George
-
its been the same date for years
-
My moneys on Kirk Hutton you wont see which way he went ;D
-
So there you go. There doesn't seem to have been a lot of thought put into the Tassie date. Don't get me wrong, I really want the Tassie Nats to go off bigger than Ben Hur but CD9 and the Conondale Classic are big opposition.
-
My moneys on Kirk Hutton you wont see which way he went ;D
You don't rate Shayne King?
-
I doubt the Connondale classic had a lot to do with the low entries from Vic. More like the $2000.00 odd dollars it'll cost most of us to get there and compete....... ::)
-
Thanks may be our club should have looked at that. My thoughts always have been that once the nats was split there should be post classic one year and pre classic they next year big turn out for both .Then each state could hold a big race aswell if they wanted .
then there be able not to clash with other big events like CD.The calender is a bit full to travel around Aust to get to most
-
My moneys on Kirk Hutton you wont see which way he went ;D
You don't rate Shayne King?
Hmm thought Kirk was a lot younger checked it out Shayne 37, Kirk 39, we should get a bookie in for the day
-
Guys,
Entry is bad at the moment but we cant make riders enter. I know that there is riders out there that are going to enter but haven't done so yet So PLEASE PLEASE if you are going to enter please do now. Our club has put there hand up to run the post classic as no other club came forward to hold the first split championships. I do agree with Mark the first Champs would possibly have been better on a mainland State but we now have to make the best of the event as no others applied. I have sent emails to all VMX associations QVMX,Viper and Heaven and asked for help to send out entry's and flyer's etc. but I didn't here back from anyone. But thats fine I am not blaming anyone for the economic down turn I know that things are very tight at the moment and it is not just in VMX our Tasmanian modern MX championships this year have suffered a 50% Down turn in entry's. It is very worrying at the moment but what can we do.
I personally would like a club from Victoria or NSW to apply for the Post Classic Championships next year as the rider numbers would be considerable compared to other states in these tough times.
We are considering running Modern support races with prize money to get the entrys up and help with the considerate cost of putting on an Australian Championship.
So some of you guys could bring your modern bike as well as your vintage bike and maybe win enough to pay for your trip as well as a Australian Championship.
What do you think? anyone got any ideas etc? i would appreciate the help
Cheers

I did speak with Ken and the boys from VMX before our date was chosen when we chose our date they didnt know when or where CD 9 was even going to be held. So we went for early August as Ken thought cd may have been Oct ,November ??? I dont think that the date is that much of a problem as the economic down turn, people have got to understand that Myself and several others from Tasmania attend 4 or 5 events a year all over Australia and it costs us $2000 a turn to attend but we keep supporting these events and clubs to keep VMX going so now it is your turn to help support us.
cheers

I have sent emails to all VMX associations QVMX,Viper and Heaven and asked for help to send out entry's and flyer's etc. but I didn't here back from anyone.
Your flyer was posted or emailed to all Heaven members some weeks ago (shortly after it arrived). The flyer and Sup regs are also available on our WEB page.
Part of the problems is that by the time most clubs are notified that nominations are open to run the Nationals often it is only a couple of weeks before the closing date. This gives very little time for a state wide club to inform members and arrive at a democratic decision to nominate to run such a large meeting. I am not blaming anyone just saying.
The other problem is that a Club Committee are nominating to run an expensive and very resource hungry meeting that very possibly a completely new Committee has to take up and actually run.
The cost and risk of these meetings is taken on by a relatively small club (from an economic sense) when in actual fact they are running it on behalf of Motorcycling Australia and many of the requirements and conditiond are set and not negotiable. Again I am not blaming anyoine just saying.
From all reports the Tassie club will do a fantastic job and have experience in running such meetings. It is very unfortunate that the cost involved in main land riders getting there is so high. I realise that the Tasmanian competitors face this everytime but it is a big shock to most people.
-
It,s a Nationals most know where and when they are been held the date was at the start of this post on oct/19/11 there was plenty of notice cheers George
-
Shane, It is great you guys put your hand up and well done for doing it, the track looks great and it should be a great event. If you need to run modern events in between the Vintage races to make the event viable then that seems reasonable. It will also bring more spectators to the track. I think the only danger would be if you shortened the title races or added modern style table tops, doubles, triples etc to the track. If the moderns make the track a bit rougher in sections, well that is true MX and the EVO and Pre 85 bikes had the suspension to handle it. I think you are correct about the unfortunate timing and the economic down turn. In my business we have certainly noticed a downturn and are battling to maintain momentum. I haven't entered but really want to make the event. For me, waiting until the last minute is the best I can do to see if I can scrape together the $ at the time. :-\
-
I think the only danger would be if you shortened the title races or added modern style table tops, doubles, triples etc to the track.
Pre 90 down to EVO bikes are more than capable of handling modern tracks. You have about 12 "s of suspension to play with. Plenty of quads and triples around in the early eighties. It isn't a club day It's an Australian Title meeting. This should be one of the pluses for any organizing club. They can run with what they have which should already satisfy MA standards.
I just doubt many clubs know what's needed to run this post classic meeting and think it might just be all (us and our constant whining about modern tracks) too hard to cater to.....
-
It,s a Nationals most know where and when they are been held the date was at the start of this post on oct/19/11 there was plenty of notice cheers George
Sorry mate I was not suggesting that notice to the competitors to enter the meeting was late as your club has done a great job in every aspect as far as I can see.
I re-read my post and thought it was clear. Anyway
I was suggesting that the expression of interest calling for any promoter/club to nominate to run the Nationals from MA via the LCB (MNSW, MV, etc) is late getting to the clubs. This leaves little time for clubs to get their nomination organised and therefore don't even bother.
-

Interested clubs all know its there and when to keep an eye out for Title submissions. If clubs are unaware or not interested they wont bother looking for it.

-
Montynut,
MA would be happy to except an expression of interest from any club to hold a Australian Championship now.
If Heaven or Viper etc wants to hold the Post Classic Championships next year 2013 please let us know now as there to this stage is no club put there hand up for this Championships. I would love to lock in a NSW club to hold the championships for next year.
cheers

Plenty of quads and triples around in the early eighties.
Yes there were Mont, but built in a format that suited the bikes of the times. I said 'Modern Style' which in my opinion are beyond what we used to race, and potentially dangerous for Vintage bikes, but maybe my memory is fading...

Seems a whole lot of discussion for the sake of it really. From what I can see those eras aren't well supported locally so the majority have to come from the main land. The main reasons why main landers aren't coming is a combination of too far, too expensive and/ or can't afford it. Neither the track design or what the club has/ hasn't done won't be factors. The club has the runs on the board with a very successful combined nats a little while back and as far as I can see are putting their best foot forward.
I just spent the day yesterday riding around two modern tracks with table tops and a set of stutters and managed to pass quite a few young ones on moderns. Track design is irrelevant .
I don't agree with alternate nationals every year either. Pre 78 will have a good turn out each year as they are the grass roots of vintage. If anything, the post vintage nationals could be every second year if anything.
I also think that if the pre78 nationals were held at Tasmania , they would have the numbers.

Well she's all over "Red Rover" >:(
Cannot believe the interest we can have with the length of a travel in a pre 78 fork, but no interest in supporting what is a great idea of a split Aus titles..
Oh well!! "Conondale Classic" bring it on.... looks like I wont have to worry about getting the bikes cleaned and packed to get to Melbourne in a couple of days anymore.. :'(

IMPORTANT NOTICE To All The Australian Post Classic Championship on the 10,11 & 12th August 2012 to be conducted by the Launceston Motocross and Scramble Club inc at Santarenna Park Bridport Tasmania.Due to lack of entrys in all classes our club executive has regrettably voted to cancel the upcoming event. We debated this decision for many hours and came to the conclusion that we had no alternative but to cancel the event as there is only 12 entrys which included only 3 from other states .
I personally am saddened by this decision as this being the first year of the CMX / CDT split championships I was hoping to have a good turn out to match the Classic Championships earlier this year and then knowing that the Commission had made the right decision to split the championships.
I am very upset that the mainland riders didn't support this event and our club seeing that the dates were released in October last year
Thankyou to those riders who made the effort to entry and I am sorry for the inconvenience
All entry moneys will be refunded
Regards
Shane Fraser
President
Launceston MX and Scramble Club inc.

Shane,
Thanks for you and your club putting your hand up for the event.
I'm sure it would have been well organised and heaps of fun if you had the support from the rest of the VMX community.
Sorry that you and your committee have had to work so hard for little result. I guess the "moons" have just not aligned this year.
All the best
Slawesy

Sad to read this Shane but I think you made the right descision in the end, I know how much work would have gone into your event and I hope the club doesnt loose too much from a financial point of view. All the best to you and your crew and remember something good always comes out of something bad.

Ok 2 questions here-1/where does MA stand on all of this?? Surely they should assist in this somewhere.
2/where does that leave the title-is it in no-mans land or can another club take it on?
-
Just from my point of view... I did kick it around a couple of times and researched the logistics of getting to TAS with trailer and several bikes, but the location and the time of year made me rethink. If it had been held in the warmer months at the beginning of the year when the days are longer and the weather warmer it would have been more pleasant for camping, riding and drinking beer/talking crap and the location would have been an issue during summer.
Maybe next time consider Feb or March?
Anyway, thanks for putting in the time/effort as I think this split is a good idea.

It still leaves us with a vacant pre85 title for 2012. The history books are getting filled with 'non events'
Toowoomba have tentively put up their hand (Echo Valley is old bike savey, and who doesn't want to ride one of Aust top circuits?)
What about any other states??

I may have missed progress on this - is there to be a Pre 85 Championships this year?
