My first bike was a twin port Jawa 250 (Road bike). It was very similar to that with the square section frame and the same hubs, but had 16" wheels. Had a little hat that used to go over the carby to make the engine very streamlined looking. Flogged the poor thing round for years till I got a 350 twin Jawa. The combined gearlever/kickstart was a bewdy. Had to rebuild the clutch and did the boiled up corks routine and sanding off. It had done a gazzillion miles before I got it, can't remeber what happened to it.

They're 1 of the few bikes around that hooking the gearlever disengages the clutch, with a bit of practise you can take off from standstill without using the clutch lever. Can remember riding my fathers 350 home with a broken cable & not worrying about needing to cross the main road
Nice bike Dave  8)

That's how it was. They were considered a pretty fair race bike in the day...then the CZs appeared... :o

It's a replica of a scrambles bike according to the listing on ebay. So I assume it would have started life as a roadie?

Probably is a converted road bike but they all were back then, same basic frame & engine used with different guards & rims

In 1965 to 67 my race a triumph 650, it was a road bike and made into a scrambler thats how it was when it all started, Its the true era of scrambling. then they got the idea to make light weight scrambler, factory bikes got real light and production bike are still heavy in today standard. Greeves where the first to lighten up bike, bantam where road bikes and raced on dirt. then the spanish started with the N model which was a roady or trail, followed by the sherpa S Models, Montesa where go kart engine.

hang on !! I was having a dig at 500fools comment about snot.. ;D
Not the Jawa.I know for a fact that they are a race bike to be reckon with, I've seen one from Victoria do its duty on other high performance bikes here in the west in August 2010.
They go like the clappers and perform way better than a piece of snot  ;D
You'll have great vmx time on this bike and I cant wait to see you do just that Team Jawa/Swedish Connection/Dave.   :)  8)
cheers Alison

Why don't you read things through slowly and comprehend them before you fly into  print and miss the point of nearly every thread you respond to with woeful spelling and dodgy grammar ? You change your name more often than you change your bikes.
Just calm down. It's a bike forum, nothing more or less.  ::)

I am sorry if l took the comment to heart, l feel the jawa is underated, a few years ago l wanted to build an ascot scrambler, which is a YDS2 yamaha roadie, l listen to too any comments and caned the idea, a couple of year ago a fellow member build a Kawasaki samuri 250 and made it into a scrambler and it went very well and he won races on it.

Yes they did, they where built by G Dawe, mine is built by Rick at Vintage Jawa, and he is going to build another 250 or 350. as l have said, l have been told it go`s very well, and that comment came from a person that rides a twinport 250 cz.

The comment was it's not a road bike.
I was happy with my old JAWA in road guise, I's have been VERY happy with one that looked like that.
