I was thinking about coming out with a 1.00mm oversize piston for the RM500. Is there any interest? Would you rather have a .75mm piston? Is there anything else that you guys are looking for? Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,speaking as the current owner of two RM500's, in my opinion both sizes (0.75mm and 1.00mm)would be of benefit, given the last Suzuki Oversize is 0.50mm.
Conrods for this model are amongst the hardest to find part I have seen as well.
-
From experience, a lot of people leave re-bores too late for a .25mm increase in bore size or they get a score from some grit which doesnt clean up with .25mm so in that case you have to go to the next .50mm size, so i reckon its probably more worthwhile to go std-.50-1.00-1.50-2.00

This is what I was thinking, but I'm not the guy buying them (actually I am)

I have been looking for a suitable replacement, but I haven't found anything yet that will work. I had a rod that I was going to modify and then I find out it's discontinued!

What a bout a replacement rod for a RM 400T

I've been trying to come up with replacement rods for the RM370, RM400, RM465 and RM500. I haven't found anything that will work or that can be modified.

Are LT500 rods any good? Have you contacted BB importers? http://www.bbimporters.com.au I have got their con rod dimensions for everything they have got.

Sorry i cant do that. I would if i could.

Someone has suggested that a KTM 360/380 con rod has similar dimensions to a RM 400T rod. Any truth to this??
-
Yeah that was Lozza that said that so im pretty sure he has given correct info there. He would have the same rod dimension charts as i do, probably more also.

I think the KTM/Maico rod is .5mm longer. I did a ton of research on this about a year ago and I could not find anything that would work , either OEM or aftermarket, that wouldn't require a spacer between the cylinder and the crankcases.

dont know why people want to keep rod charts a secret mate..heres a couple i found www.italkit.com www.rectificados-bellavista.com and www.jokersracing.com they dont have every make and model listed but could be a help even some of the jet ski rods on jokersracing...if all fails prox give them a call they faxed me a list of rods close to what i need with measurements
-
KTM 360/380 rod is the dimensions I posted the 0,5mm will not make any difference, just use a thick base gasket.

Its dealer info only, that is why i can not publicly post it, but if i have the dimensions i can look it up for you.

I was going to do that, but I figured that I would be met with resistance and reasons why to not do that.

I will probably be not doing the RM500 pistons at this time, doesn't seem like anybody is interested. Maybe later in the year.
-
465 pistons then ???

Ron, how about asking on the new suzuki 'Full Floator' forum?
-
Give the RM owner's 6 months into the season and they'll be knocking down the doors ;D

Thanks Leith, I posted there. We will see what happens. I may even put something in my next VMX ad.

I need a .25 o/s piston kit or even a ring would do,can anybody help?
-
I'll check around and see if I can find anything.
-
0.75mm o/s rings for a 465 would be good ;).

I can't do just a reproduction ring, the order quantity is too high to be cost effective.
-
So did anyone solve the problem of the RM500 Rod
-
The only solutions I have heard of is using a tm400 rod,but you have to bore the piston pin hole out to suit the larger little end pin size the tm 400 uses which I think is 20mm not sure, this info came from Rick Horvat in America as he has done this conversion with success.Or you can put a complete rm465 crank in the 500 casings as the 465 rods are still available but they are about 580.00 US just for a rod if you look up Alpha sports. And also the big end pins for the 500 are unavailable as vintage suzuki have sold out of them and not restocking at this stage. Other than these options us rm owners will just have to wait a while as someone will make them sometime we all hope! :)

Use the KTM 360/380 rod with a 1.00mm base gasket. Problem solved or is that too simple?
-
we have guy over here who has used a Yammie 80's model wr490, with two base gaskets and 3mm spacer
-
wanted crank pin 12211 - 14220
