Title: This is why you pay your Ambulance subscription.....
Post by: All Things 414 on June 25, 2010, 02:22:19 pm
Just got a bill from Ambulance Victoria for my taxi ride to the Wonthaggi Hospital the other day. Bare in mind that the Hospital is only about 2 km from the track.

$2,154.00!!

Thankfully there'd been a mix-up because I hadn't changed my address details. I broke into a cold sweat going through my book-work to see if I'd payed it. Thankfully I had! If I hadn't I reckon' I would have been having another ambo ride..... :P

I can't seem to find an income protection mob that'll cover me for racing (maybe they know how bad I am). Does yours cover you for that Monaro? If they do can you let me know who they are? Thanks.

There used to be a company called Combined American Insrurance co., not sure where they are now or if they are still called that but they used to insure you anywhere anytime if it involved a motor vehicle.

Combined are still operating, they will cover you for every circumstance except skydiving, or when you are pissed. I have a policy with them as a sort of income protection cover, quite good for peace of mind when you are a subbie with no holidays or sick pay .They are going to do a quick doorstop at our next month's club night, only takes 10 mins but well worth a look.
The rep who signed me up is now working in Victoria and is pretty helpful, for those interested he is Stirling Quintal ph 0450 554 933. Fair chance he'll stop by and do a quick presentation for your club if you're interested. I have no finger in the pie with Combined, but if they're good enough to cover us while racing they deserve a mention if nothing else.  ;)

I used combined ins co of america from about '62 till about '72 when I stopped racing at the time and I made a claim. I broke a left wrist scaffoid bone at Arcadia and put in a claim stating 'crashed while in practice at the motorcycle race meeting.' I thought this will test them out. No problems with them at all, they payed up every 2 weeks for three months. cheers pancho.

Same goes for Travel insurance when you're overseas!

A dog decided to have a substantial chew on my leg, last time I was at Diamond Dons, needed 9 stitches in the local hospital.  The final cost was US$2000.   :o  The travel insurance covered that, fortunately.

The supposed cover from MA is next to useless-covers you if you die-maybe. I called them after Popeye crashed and they suggested I call someone that cared-." maybe try the Salvos" was what she said from memory.
It seems that what we pay for is for "total and permanent injury" only but somehow covers bike damage as well??
We're covered by our rates for ambulance up here in Qld which is great for them 'cause we pay rates on a few properties-makes me want to crash just so I can get a ride somewhere.

So what is the $275 I paid to MNSW for?

They even give you nothing when you become permenently disabled, even if you become paralised!  I see quite often.

so what do they actually do again ... ???

bear in mind that what Combined sell isn't "income protection insurance" it's a predetermined payout based on what premium you pay them, for a set period of time eg 1yr.

Most income protection policies pay till you're 65 if you're unlucky enough to do yourself that much damage.

In 1982 my son was air lifted to Mercy Hospital from Colac when he was born at 12 midnight, l got the bill $10,000, 2 years same happen to my 3rd son air Ambulanace children hospital again $10,000 +, 2 years my 4th son again $10,000 plus same price, so it is very wise to have that cover.

While on the topic of ER and Medical situations ..has anyone had this procedure done and what was the outcome . ??? .cheers A

Nerve Sleeve Injection
This injection should confirm that compression or irritation of that particular nerve root is responsible for your symptoms. The injection will in most cases, provide a varying duration of relief from your symptoms.
The procedure involves a fine needle placed close to the nerve just beyond its exit from the spine. CT guidance is used to ensure safe and accurate placement of the needle. A long acting anaesthetic (0.5% Bupivacaine) and a long acting steroid (Kenacort or Celestone) are injected. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. The injection is not usually painful although occasionally there may be transient limb pain when the needle is near the nerve. This is usually brief and will not cause nerve damage.
