Title: VICTORIA A STATE OF UNREST
Post by: jerry on April 23, 2010, 09:20:32 am
Ex Police Commissioner who was having her hair cut, working on her biography and having a meal out with friends while the biggest fire ever to hit the state blazed away (but she was contactable even though her phone was turned off). Murdered drug lord ( ? corrupt cops) in the most secure prison within a prison in the state. Melbourne Storm salary cap rorts. What next? I thought this stuff only happened in QLD and NSW. Cheers Jerry

Oops I forget MYKI the electronic public transport system thats cost $1.3 B so far and hasn't fired a shot in anger. If we had a half way competent opposition party the current mob would have been bounced years ago.Jerry

Freaking amazing ........NSW just spent similar (but at least ours works ;D) but why ain't these systems bought Federally and then the costs divy'ed up between the states - gees, they reckon to be competitive we have to be the smart nation ::). And we sold the State lotteries to pay for it. And gave that company the right to retain Unclaimed Monies. And gave the contract to a company convicted of fraud during previous tendering :o

(It's a rhetorical question; the answer is that there are thousands of Pubic Servants and politicians and other various hangers on sucking on this particular teat and are not about to give up - notice the shitfight re public health. Tell me that was NOT all about political points scoring, protecting one's empire and actually about good public policy.)

Yes - we will give you Nanna Bligh for free.  There are a whole heap of Queensland health people around that are hyped up on free coffees that aren't getting paid.  We could send some of those down too if you'd like.
Also for sale - rail, port and other infrastructure.  :o

Meanwhile over in the Land of the Long White Shroud you have former ministers of justice, people with Knighthoods and former commercial security comission members on corruption charges.

If you get convicted does the Queen take her knighthood back ???

That's the end of the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne but it's no great loss as the so called Sports State never understood Rugby League anyway. The only people who go to the games are expat NSW and Queenslanders, Kiwis and Seth Efricans. I went to a Storm/Rabbitoes game at Olympic Park a few years ago and it was a sea of Maori ex Aucklanders wearing the Storm purple. While the Sydney papers and news broadcasts give Aussie Rules equal coverage, in Victoria, Rugby and Rugby League are stuck away in the back of the sports section sharing a page with volleyball and lawn bowls in anything bar News Limited papers. Let the Storm die and set up a new team on the Central Coast where they appreciate the game and leave Victoria to their own. Apparently everythings perfect down there already without outside help.

Our premier might be head clown in the circus but at least she's the best sort in Aussie politics.

I agree Firko, bring back Norths Bears.

Growing up in the NT I once saw a bloke wearing a shirt that read:

There are only 2 states to be in, Queensland or pissed.

He was pissed.

This is freaky! Once again I'm totally in agreement. ;)
I nearly jumped for joy when I heard they'd got their dicks caught in the door. Let's get rid of this farce that we actually take an interest in this bizarre game (?) as it borders on embarrassment seeing Victorians swathed in purple walking into an empty arena and barracking for these clowns....

Ah, the wonderful world of politics. The Mikey system is fundamentally sound, but keeps getting f$%ked with by politicians (and their Public Servant minions) who need it to be all things to all people.
This really is one of those things where an opposition party can't lose - by kicking up a fuss, the public is trained to expect perfection the moment its switched on. And so then the govt trying to predict the problems create even more problems, giving the oppostion more to whinge about, creating even more distrust among the public, causing the government more reason to meddle.

I promise you that nobody could do what the Vic gov't originally planned to do, without hiccups (although the basic concept is solid). The buck will stop with the govt, but the opposition's involvment has undoubtedly made the situation far worse.

Any poor Saffies living in Melbourne would definitely identify with Rugby League before AFL. I have Saffie friends living in Melbourne and not understanding a single thing about AFL, follow Rugby League and the Storm for want of a proper Rugby side to support. Next year they get the Rebels so all is well. Having said that, the Rebels have just as much support as the Storm...expats, and without the Murdoch dollars pumping them up. I have grave fears for their  long term survival.

Oh AFL is way out of a saffies grasp but league? That would be like selling your grandmother. The ultimate betrayal. The whole union thing is so ingrained in saffies psyche that it's impossible to remove.

There's still cricket..(hold on guys I'm a trials rider, slow and steady will win the day, leather on willow and all that)

Typical response from the Cockroaches , The Storm have a solid supporter base and there is plenty of money at stake so when you get flogged by the Storm this season just bend over and take it . Hilly.

That's not what I said. I'm sure AFL can easily be understood by even the most one eyed of South Africans. What I mean't is that Rugby League is closer to the proper Rugby than AFL ever was or will be and is an alternative for want of a proper Rugby Union team for them to follow.
Go to a Storm home game Tim and listen to the accents around you. I bet you'll find someone from your home town.

If you think Gof (lets open the floodgates and let all the shit into the country) Witlam and Bob (lets get pissed every night and root everything ) Hawke farked the country up, wait till Kevin pretty boy Rudd's finished......god save the Queen.......cause he wont save Australia!!.....I'll go plant some more cabbages now.

its stuff like this that i hate hearing... 1.3 BILLION DOLLARS.. (one thousand three hundred MILLION!!?)

spent on a f'ing ticket system for melbourne transport that was already totally redesigned 10 years ago.

... and 20,000 homeless people in Victoria.

now lets take that 1300000 and divide it by... 20k = $12,960,000 (per homeless person....)
that kind of money, there'd be so much change left over, they could invest it in something like bringing back trade schools,
or doing something that will create employment and oppertunitys. not wasting it on a ticket system for a couple of private companys
that probably dont even keep the money in Australia. the same people who are always trying to find ways to replace people with machines.

why not check how this stacks up against the whole population of vic.

130000000 divided by 5400000 = $240 per victorian...   that is utter bs....

politians live sheltered lives and dont understand the true value of a dollar... let alone 1.3 billion.

oh well, why should they care.. they'll just go order another scotch from the bar @ 50c... subsidized by all of us.

If any other club says that they aren't paying players under the table...THEY ARE FAT LIERS.
Melbourne storm got caught or was it a set up to oust them??
I can see a mad rush for the paper shredder in the other clubs.
The NRL should have given them a bigger fine...not kill the club.

I'm not into the bum sniff'n game but i support the Storm as alot of Victorians do and all its done now is to push the interest of NRL into the scrap heap for us.
Our interest will now be ZERO....NRL.....you F@#Ked up i think.

Go the pies  ;D

What I meant was that AFL is too different from rugby, granted league is far closer. But the whole union thing is deeply ingrained in a saffies psyche.

No doubts that you'll hear many saffies at a Storm game but they'll all be turncoats. Is it just me or are the buggers breeding now (Tim waves UK passport)? Went to the bottle shop yesterday and a saffie was there. We won't discuss St Ives will we  ::)

Why would they be turncoats? Living in Melbourne, a city that has very little Rugby culture whether it be Union or League, the expat Saffie can go to a Storm game for some footy entertainment and at least get some Rugby enjoyment. They can still be fans of the mother game and go to a league game without selling their soul. I played Rugby Union for 20 odd years and love the game above all other ball games. However I'm a great fan of my beloved Rabittoes Rugby League team and have a more than passing interest in the Swannies AFL. I don't feel that I've sold my Rugby soul because I happen to like League and AFL as well and I reckon those Saffies wearing the purple at a Storm game would feel the same. Come next year they'll be out there in their Bulls/Stormers/Sharks/Cheetahs jerseys enjoying them playing against the Rebels and supporting the Rebels (as their new local choice) against all other Aussie and Kiwi teams in the Super 15 series. It's not accidental that both the ARL and ARU want a portion of the the Victorian market. There are now too many expats living there in need of a team to call their own in a code they're familiar with.

Bugger it lets! :P
Just after Christmas some friends originally  from Capetown were in town to visit rellys so we all met up at the Greengate Hotel on the Highway in 'Snives' for a drink. I wasn't in the bar more than two minutes before I realised that two girls behind the bar were Saffies as were the young guy picking up glasses, three quarters of the clientele and even the stupid woman who parked me in out on the street. My Capetown friends who've actually lived in Los Angeles for 20 years reckon they hadn't heard so many Africaan accents in years. I'd love to go back to the Greengate to watch a Bulls v 'Tahs game on the big screen....I reckon I'd come out sounding ( but not acting) like the ghost of Eugene Terre'Blanche after a few schooners! ;D

Vic in a mess? Ha, take a look at NSW after 12yrs of hard Labor. In Feb we had the lowest private housing approvals ever, while the rest of the country experienced 10-40% increases, we took it up the arse going backwards -14%. WTF do people keep voting these power whores back I'll never know. Are Aussies really that stupid?

I'm having lunch with the NSW treasurer this week..any questions you guys would like me to ask him...aside from the obvious?
