HELPING OUT A MATE.
As you all no doubt know, our friend Bruce "Magoo" McFarland is going through a pretty tough time of it health wise and because of ongoing treatment he's been unable to work.
In a bid to help Bruce and his family through this difficult time in their lives an anonymous member of the Sydney VMX community has generously donated a completely restored but not quite finished 1979 Honda CR250 to be sold, with all proceeds going to Magoo to help pull him through this tough period.
THE BIKE: 1979 HONDA CR250.
This magnificent machine undergone a ground up rebuild with no expense spared such as:
* The engine has been fully rebuilt using only the best in N.O.S. and aftermarket parts.
*New DG pipe and silencer.
*New Novation swingarm.
*Fully restored and rebuilt '81 Honda 41mm forks.
*New YSS shock absorbers
*Rebuilt wheels with new stainless steel spokes, Excel rims, new bearings.
*New Renthall 'Fat' handlebars and risers.
*New Magura levers.
*New Gunnar Gasser throttle.
*New stainless steel wide pegs.
*New air filter.
*New seat cover
*New plastic all round with spare new side covers.
The frame was stripped to bare metal and powdercoated and the tank was painted with twin pack the correct shade of red to colour match the plastic. New graphics were also fitted and clear coated. There are two each spare OEM brake and clutch cables.
The bike is within a couple of hours hours and a few small parts of completion. All that's needed are :
* A new Keihin (or Mikuni) carb
*A new chain
*A brake arm.
*A chain guide roller
*A few miscalaneous nuts and bolts.
If anybody would like to donate the needed parts (chain, carby, brake stay, chain guide/roller) it'd be going to a good cause.
The bike is being offered for the best offer over $5000 which is a steal considering what's been done to the bike. If interested, PM me and I'll put you in contact with the seller.
.
IF PURCHASING THE ABOVE HONDA IS A BIT OUT OF YOUR REACH BUT YOU'D STILL LIKE TO HELP MAGOO OUT, PLEASE DONATE A FEW BUCKS INTO HIS ACCOUNT TO HELP THE FAMILY THROUGH THIS HARROWING TIME.
The bank details are : Account name----B&A McFarland B.S.B.--- 112879 Account # ----050188996 .

I have a 1984 CR250RE NOS Tank still in original packaging to put up for auction, which will include postage to your door!
sale price to go to Magoo's account, will finnish at 10.00pm Sunday Feb 14.
C'mon Guys we all know that Magoo is the first person to put up his hand when someone else needs help, so turn it up!
More stuff to come from me as well, just got to go find some...
-
I've just blown the budget for a while on car stuff, but I'll do everything I can as well.
Bugger this getting old thing................. all the good blokes are getting crook................. :(
-
I know we took this auction thing to new heights during the Noel Clark fundraiser and that many of you contributed financially well over and above anything we'd expected. Unfortunately Magoos illness has unexpectedly come along so once again we plead for you to open your wallets to support a bloke that would be first to put his hand up to support you if the situations were reversed.
E74 has kindly donated a new old stock 1984 CR250RE Tank to auction for Noel. Who's first to bid on what must be a very rare item?
-
Well done Firko for getting things rolling for Magoo and family.
This bike is trully a generous gift to help raise funds for a top bloke and his family and we can all do something to help! so if your up for a mint evo bike get bidding.
Shane, what agreat offer mate!

Well done Firko for getting things rolling for Magoo and family.
Thanks for the nice words Trev but I'm a minor member of a small but very dedicated team on this one. Bruce has a number of good mates who are doing as much as they can to assist him both financially and emotionally without making too much of a fuss, as Bruce has requested.
I guess it's evolving that my contribution to the effort will as the spokesman for those selfless individuals who'd rather remain anonymous. Trust me when I tell you that if I was stuck in a bunker during WW1, I'd want these blokes next to me.

G'day All
Brad Fisher here, I didn't realise just how crook the Magoo is, so great initiative by Firko! Magoo's dad passed away today, so it is still falling his way, AND I have not caught up with him over this, but any self employed bloke having so much time off can only lead to hardship for Anne and the kids. So I would like to support Firko's call to arms. When I was involved with HVMX many years ago Bruce Mac always had the best interests of everybody at heart, he was strongly supportive of fund raising events for many charities, he gave so much of himslef tirelessly and put in a great deal of effort and at great personal cost to himself. I will never forget that at the 11th hour the trophies for the years events failed to materialise, Bruce came to the rescue with the 2003 number plates which he worked at night and day with only a few weeks notice.
Bruce was always taking time off work to set up tracks, he gave have up racing to be an official often, so if you feel like your racing fee wasn't onerous, for a weekend of racing and fun and you were just able to role up to the many HVMX and Nepean events over those years and was able to just ride, it may be a good time to ponder how much Bruces and the other volunteers work was worth, and throw in an amount to his bank account small or big it doesnt matter every bit will help
I am a bit out of line here, but i would guess that like a lot of self employed people the insurance will be a hassle and maybe not as much as it should be, if he had it, and I know he has a modest home with a mortgage in camden and 3 kids and he and Anne would never ask, and I am guessing they are going to need something until he recovers.
This is so tricky to be doing this, and i feel a bit out of line, because he would never ask, and I am telling you this is a genuine and needy case and unlike a lot of charities 30% won't be going to admin!
Maybe the good people in NSW could organise a few fund raisers. Maybe a show and shine and we can sell some bikes with a percentage of the proceeds going to Bruce. Anyhow maybe Firko and a few others are already working behind the scenes on this?
Lucky he has Hondas they still seem to be fetching more than Bultacos! Still!

Info about the Skyway TM 250 pipe. It was sold to me as a TM250 pipe. I bought it as a potential race pipe for an RH250L. It does fit into the barrel but it exits to the left side of the bike- wrong side for the RH. So I am not sure about the TM fit. Hopefully TM owners will be able to tell. It is straight and in very good cond. There should be some photos up here soon- thanks to another forum member.

I'm in for a gold DID x-ring chain, tell us what size and where to send it. ;)
PM address if you like.
I rang R & D Husky in Emu Plains to arrange for a DID Gold chain to be collected this morning, and paid for on my bankcard. Stefan, who I spoke to, told me to wedge my bankcard, and that he'd be more than happy to donate a chain, so thanks Stefan, and thanks R & D Husky. Also from those who have contacted Magoo yesterday, it sounds as though he's going ok, so fingers crossed for the lad. ;)

Great now take the highest bid here Firko and put it on EBAy as a starting price and let everyone know in the world it is to help out a family and may the highest bidder win!
And every cent goes to a good cause, because the audience here is too small, open it up to the world , because Bruce has touched the whole world with his passion for the red devil!
-
Thanks for the help in putting up the photos Steve and Alison.
That is a generous bid for sure. I originally put the finish time as friday 19th, so it looks like the pipe has found a new home. Thanks again and I will PM you about the details.

has it sold yet or is bidding still going on?

Hello everyone, Just a foot note to this thread
I would like to thank Shoey for putting this bike up for sale to support Magoo in his hour of need. He had spend a lot of time, effort and not least of all, money on the bike and is a credit to him for such and act of kindness. I am sure Shoey, we will spend some time around it at CD 7 having a beer and talking of our lost mate.
I am proud to be the one to purchase it and will be running the bike with big "M" 's on it in recognition of our great mate, so look out for it at CD 7 and Crawford River.
I would also like to thank Ribbo and his lovey wife for meeting me with the bike at the local pub at Bulahdelah to catch up and have a beer at one of Bruce's favorite watering holes.
Personally I would also like to thank everyone that has helped in Bruce's hour of need. "It goes to show how much nothing more than a common interest (in this case vintage motocross) can bring out the love in people who have given time and money to help without question"
The one thing I will remember was that very statement said by Bruce when I seen him on the Friday before his passing.
Again many thanks one and all.
Shane
See you all at CD7
-
I'm glad the bike went to a good home Shane. We'll be having a Magoorita Party in the Kevlar Kompound/Team Husky area at CD7 to celebrate Magoos life. Be there or be square. ;D
-
I'll be there with a bit of a tribute to Magoo,
I'm still struggling with it , I subconsciously keep thinking I should ring him.... :(
-
A big thanks to Chris Cormack & his wife Mim for offering their hospitality on Friday night, which was a dedicated fundraiser for the McFarlane family, which was attended by some of the Viper boys. Chris spoke of Magoo in great respect & young Harry did a great job of passing round the helmet doing the collection, followed by a bbq tea, a few beers, a good laugh and an auction to follow, of which we werent able to stay for. The Cormack's Butcher donated the meat & made a personal donation in support, of which all were most grateful. Although we did not know him personally, from what has been said on this forum, we are sure that Magoo would be most humbled by everyones support & generosity.

Hey Guy's
We have been away for sometime and have just returned to Australia.
Thanks for the kind words Trevor.
a very special thanks to Shane for his exceptional support of the family in this matter.
Thanks to my great mate for delivering the bike to Buladehla.
As stated in this thread by others ,It goes to show how much nothing more than a common interest (in this case vintage motocross) can bring out the love in people who have given time and money to help without question"
I know its old new's but there are many , many good people associated with this hobby/sport , men's men whom Im proud to call friends and would stand with in any circumstance.
Stand we have and we will continue , only now we are minus one.
I look forward to standing around this bike with my mates , having a good old bench race over a couple of beers and sorry old mate it wont be VB.
Take care guys and god bless Bruce

Just a thought for CD7.Last year they had an award for the best CZ of the meet. What about a trophy in Magoo's honour for the best dressed Honda,as he was a "man of the people",why not make it a people's choice award? What do you reckon?
