yz250g triples/forks
« on: September 28, 2009, 07:45:59 pm »
i'm bolting together a 250g for a mate, and after looking at the pics in the fairly recent VMX mag with the F&G models ( ;D) the triples don't seem to be the same.

The ones on the bike aren't raked backwards (at all) like those in the magazine, and the forks aren't able to be raised through the clamps as they hit the underside of the bars.

Does anyone have some pics or info on how the standard clamps should look?

cheers

250G had rubber mounted bars standard.

Straight off the top of my head, I can't think of any Yamaha that had 38mm forks and "bars over the forks". All of the 38mm triples I have, have the generic swept back handlebar mounts.

The standard G forks are super long, and are designed to have ~60mm sticking out of the top of the top triple - otherwise they steer really badly.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

F's had the same solid swept back mounts as 77/78.G's had rubber mount as in this link.

Do yours have onne or two pinch bolts on the top triple?

Got   G and   F ones here if you need. Would like to see the one that you have. Early 80's 125 's had 38mm with straight up clamps.

Thanks Maniac ;D

I may have to take you up on that, the previous owner is checking to make sure he doesn't have them lying around his shed. The bike had been in storage for a bit, so they may be there.

The top clamp has a a part no. 24XOO ? don't know if that means anything to anyone.

Cheers again

One of my Yamaha No listing says 24X=YZ250K, 1984
The other says                          24X=YZ125K, 1983

and ZEDDER says YZ125K, 1983

Take your pick

A big thanks to Holeshot for helping me out here, went out of his way to organise a set from a guy at a swapmeet. He replies to his PM's too.

Given the goings-on about people ripping each other off I thought some balance was necessary.
