PE Wheel is quick release, RM is not. You would have to confirm this with oldfart but from my investigations the RM swingarm is different length to the PE and different spacing from pivot to shock bolt so geomtry would be changed, but not in a bad enough way to make the conversion not a good idea. The RM 400 swingarm is the same as the RM250.

Pivot widths are different but m not sure if its enough to make the conversion not possible.

The back of a PE swingarm is also a lot wider than the RM
The older I get, the faster I was

All of what leith has said ......total length of arm is the same     but   from pivt to shocks
Rm = 300mm
Pe  = 330mm
 and Pe's are wider at pivot pin by approx??? check Pe files ( think it's 7.5 mm)
Micheal, I ended up buying a RM  hub and swingarm out of the States  for  SFA

Yeah ive seen a few aftermarket swing arms for 79/80 RM models (mainly only in literature) but they are REALLY rare. You wont find one, not many were made/sold as they had good alloy swingarms standard. They almost only exist on paper if you know what i mean. if you want a trick swingarm GMC can make you one and annodize it gold.

How much of a bike have you got? if you just want to get it going and looking 'about right' there is so many options for suzuki forks to use. There is always heaps of forks and triples at wreckers and on ebay and not too expensive either. Pretty much any 78 to mid 80's leading axle RM/DR/PE 36 or 38mm front ends will go on with not too many dramas.

First thing i would do is check out the gear box and rebuild the motor before you get stuck into the rest of it. RM gears are fast becomming extinct and hot property, there are guys struggling to find them right now, i think its first and second gears that wear/break?

In the USA late model PE400s were 38mm, as were singleshock 175s. I was buying a PE set to go on a DR. Sadly they haven't turned up, nor did the vendor  provide any evidence that  he'd  sent them. Ebay refunded me on the strength of one phone call, immediately.
The PE 38s had a bit less travel than the RM38s.
