40 hole rims, Montesa VR Cappra rear wheel
« on: November 03, 2007, 03:50:12 pm »
I'm desperately searching for both 21'' and 18'' alloy 40 hole rims so I can build a second pair of Rickman wheels for my upcoming Cheney.
I prefer ribbed, mudcatcher Akront, Borrani or Takasago but any type will do as long as they're matching. I may even consider a clean pair of chrome steel rims. I'm also looking for a Montesa Cappra VR back wheel and backing plate.

Are you sure about that Firko. I'm no Monty expert but the VR and VA/VB (plus a multitude of other Monty models) appear to have the same hub/brake/backing plate. And my VB has 36 spokes.

Thanks Graeme, I realise the Monty hub has 36 spokes. I want the Montesa hub for another project altogether, the resurrection of the DT1 from Hell. The 40 holer rims are for the Rickman hubs that I'm going to fit to my soon to arrive Cheney Yamaha. The first set of Rickman wheelsI built are going on the Hindall Ducati. Since I've retired from the working life I've been setting up the resto scedule to keep my hands active and mind working. This batch plus the Maico trials bike are being prepped to make their debut at CD5..
Do you have a VR/VA/VB/King Scorpian hub you'd part with Graeme?

Yeah, I wish :).

I would love to have a spare for the VB  8) and if I had another I might slip it into one of my period Yammies  ;) - the Monty hub is reputed as one of the strongest lightest and most effective brake of the period  ;) :).

There is one that is regularly offer on ebay by a Victorian wrecker. Listed as suitable for a VE125, wheel only, no backing plate and 17in (I think). Asks $99 Buy Now  :o ::).

If I come across anything I'll drop you a PM.
