Caps i presume the 460 kit is for the '81 450.. Are you fitting it to a 480?
Did you have much trouble tracking down the kits?

So you are going to put the 460 kit on the 480. If you want to move it on,I would buy it off you when you put the 480 kit on.

Very very nice collection, I can understand the addiction. How are you finding getting parts?

The evos were an exciting time, each year had a new experiment and the manufactures were going mad trying to out do each other. Buying a magazine each month had some new to offer. From the 50ies to the mid 70ties innervation was going from a BSA side valve to a two stroke east euro engine and shockys on the rear. Man is that comment going to cause a stir. ::) No harm meant. :)

From 1989 down the CR open class bikes changed heaps but I think you have the most varied between bike you have.

Today it’s bikes are just different color plastics. I was horrified with the suspicion put forward on the BMW when it came out, shame they didn’t progress with Knight. I think the Husaberg has had the modern community gob smacked.

Parts are a bit hard to come by. I have asked on several forums about replacement conrod kits for the 480 but no one can answer me on that. The 85 rod will fit the 84 but i think they are all thin on the ground as well.
I think that is why some euro bikes are easier to get parts for, as they dont change so much every year.
You spend a bit of time on the cr500 forum if i remember correctly.
Im getting my alloy framed 500 sorted at the moment as it will be my modern ride. Its got the David Bailey kit on it so it will not be out of place with these girls.

Brad,

I haven't found info on a replacement con rod yet. Sorry about the delay.  (I started the CR480 Yahoo Group)

I have 2 rebuilt CR480s on the shelf with new rods in them and 2 NOS con rods in their bags.  I know someone who had rods made for his RM500 and I'm sure it wasn't cheap.  Maybe someday we can have a batch made, if enough of us will order them. (That's why I'm holding on to the NOS rods)
 ;)

How does the 84 CR500 compare to the 83 CR480?

I dont think there is such a thing as a replacement unfortunately. There is a definite market there.
The yahoo group seems to be fairly active.
The 84 has a narrower band and hits hard so it feels like it goes harder. The 83 has a broad band so is very easy to ride.
The Mugen kit is supposed to make a big difference. I hope it still has the same characteristics as the standard barrel.

I normally blast round the CR500 forum; the Yanks are a different breed but not a bad bunch of blokes. An AF 500 conversion would be sweet, I may consider that myself one day. Having the 500 two banger is a modern frame has a certain appeal.

I have read comments from dudes that have one and they recon gen Y reaction is priceless while they way up a 250 two stroke compare it to there 450, 4 stoke then the vacant look of what tha and say Oh.

Do you have an engine, black or silver?
