'74 VR250 engine cases colour?

I swear I've seen a different thing on every bike: Gloss black, satin black, crinkle finish black, raw alloy, polished alloy....
And that's before you look a the combinations of finishes on the cases vs the clutch/ignition covers.

What did they come with?

Are you doing an 'anal' NOS resto or do you want a 'representative' race resto.

I think the VR, VA and VB are the same. For a representative race resto I think satin black cases and covers are correct. As with the Jappers, getting the exact satin sheen is difficult.

On the VR, V75 and VA, the centre cases were a natural finish.  clutch cover, magneto cover, cylinder and head were semi gloss(satin) black.
If doing a show restoration, do not bead blast the centre cases as the finish will be incorrect. Either strip the cases or have them blasted with non evasive
material (walnut shell blasting) so as to not change the texture.  PJ-1 case paint works well on the black parts.
