What's the score with these DG heads? They weigh heaps more than a stocker, look awful and offer minimal at best performance gains but the price goes through the roof nearly every time one goes on eBay. I'd understand the bling perspective if they didn't look so out of place on an engine, especially Suzukis.

I know that the DG heads used on RD350's and 400 get their squish bands remachined and are very popular with classic drag racers, maybe someone is doing that with the dirt bike heads. MY MX250 Webco head has a more modern squish design compared to the stock head too.

id rather a webco head i have one for  my 250 b but they are hard to find

same here, the Webco ones are real hard to get. the DG theroetically has much better cooling due to the larger thicker fins and more surface area. i know they are heavy! DG got their act together with these in the 80's and actually started machining quish bands. I also found out a little while ago they made them for RM 500's and CR 480's. i bet no one has one on those bikes

yup..I agree, most DG heads look awful on post 78 Suzuki's, like a pumpkin on a pimple.. FMF porcupine or radial fin as the pick of the bunch for appearances. From the used ones I've seen they didn't detonate as much as the DG, Ocelot or Webco.

i reckon one of the reasons they had detination was because they had higher compression ratios but owners never used really hi ocatne fuel like they should of.

When I visited Vintage Iron in California back in the early 90's He had at least a couple of hundred NOS DG heads, some undrilled and unmachined. I remember him telling me at the time that they were crap but the bling punters just loved the gold anodizing. I've used Webco heads for years and I'm using a rare ACK head in my RT1 engine right now. I actually prefer to weld and remachine my stockk head to suit my own or my porting guys ideas on squish design. My Maico square barrel has an 81 400 style combustion chamber. It's interesting that nobody ever made aftermarket heads and stuff for Maicos. It tells me that the factory got it right.

The extrusion is just an anodised heatsink, the quiessent head shape isn't the best for stopping dets. Worst thing is most of them have an angled plug making any sort of machining fix a complete pain in the arse. Apparently Don and Gary bought miles of that extrusion.

so if they made so many why are they hard to get. you dont see heaps of people with them.

and so its just an industrial heat sink cut to length and machined to suit? i always thought they were from the same mould and just cut to shape but apparently there were 2 types one had a certain amount of fins and the other had a few more fins. im surprised no one has been reproducing them and making them with better combustion chambers if they are that simple to make. think of how many you could sell on ebay for a couple $100 a piece

I found a near new DG head and S/H stock bore YZ125X barrel for $15 at the Cessnock swap meet last year, I was looking in the right place, at the right time, the old guy I brought the head & barrel from did not have clue what he had, had to keep my jaw from hitting the ground when he said $15 , also was given another DG head for a late air cooled YZ80 a few weeks ago that a friend had lying around in his shed, it was no use to him as he has Suzuki's, it was given to him years ago.
