Who. Where and When
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:40:09 pm »
Keeping the threads separate.....I love the international thread but have no idea who they are.

So, to get things back to home on a separate thread, who are these riders, where was it and when?  And since it is easy and I already owe motomaniac half my wine collection, no prizes for this one.

If they are honda riders from SA it will be Steve Rowlands and Darryl Willoughby.
I went for '76 cos there was no 250 Honda in '77 but i just noticed Gunter's bike has '77 forks.

Not sure but I went for 77 bcoz of the forks ,also Gally has no speedo and tacho. The Hondas might be trik M3's .Pace and Behrens had Marzooclis I think.

Very close.  Definitely Gunter out front in 1977 at Puncture Park (aka ACUSA Park, Harrogate, at the inaugural Hang Ten Championships).

There was a third Honda rider on the 250 with the Mugen kit and HRC front forks (gas bottles extending up above the top triple clamp).  #16 is Willoughby.  Rowlands was #3, not #4 (at far left).

Maybe #22 was Riley, who tragically died after a fall in Mr MX at Broadford in 1979 (or 1980)??????

Could it be Terry Wigzell on the #4 Honda.

No, not Terry Wigzell.

I can't remember Landman winning Danny Reilly, but I know he won the Laurie Boulter twice, one of which was in 1976.  May have also won in 1977.

 ???

He may have won the Danny Reilly.  I wasn't around from 1978 through to 1981, so may have missed the first ones.

Another shot of the #4 Honda.  Does any-one know anything about the front forks???  Were they used anywhere else?

Can't say i've ever seen those forks on a Honda before. They look similar to Yamaha forks bit with smaller canisters.
That bike looks a bit dated compared to the competition.
